What’s your stage name and where are you from?
Iron Lion. I am from Calgary, Canada
What’s the story behind your stage name?
It was based off of the lion on the shield in my family coat of arms crest. I am also a big Bob Marley fan
Describe your musical journey in three sentences.
I have always loved music and it has always always been a huge part of my life. I went from a hardcore fan to putting my vision on paper and recording real life tracks and reaching higher levels than I ever thought possible. I am a lifer, I’ve been recording and releasing music for over twenty years and it’s in my blood, I just released my biggest album ever at age 46
Share an interesting experience you had while creating your latest track.
I nearly passed away from an anaphylactic episode this year and it changed the vibe and feel of my album and the song “Living My Life” is about living my life after a near miss
What message do you want to convey through your music?
This album, from the cover to the order of the tracks is a musical journey on life an death, writing about my near death experience as well as reminiscing about the good old days in my youth as well as putting my biography on a song
Tell us about a challenge you faced during production and how you overcame it.
My album writing and recording was halted after only two songs were done after my anaphylactic episode that lead to me pausing the album to regroup and get my life, mental health and priorities back on track. I over came this being by expressive about my incident and changing the album theme to be about life and death
If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be and why?
Probably another Canadian idol named Classified. I opened for him back in 2005 when he was first touring Canada and was very impressed by his work ethic and how he handles it all by himself and makes it the way he wants it to be
Where do you see your music taking you in the next year?
After the amazing response to this album I am making a part 2 that will be more positive, uplifting and colorful. My new music will have less darkness to it
What’s the next big step for you as an artist?
No big steps but I would like to build off of the success I’ve had with promo and radio play from this album ( I reached number one on the charts of our local station CSJW)
Where can we hear/watch your most recent work?
My album “Blackship Enterprise” is available everywhere! And my latestvideo for my single “Lay It Down” is on YouTube
