The Soulful Musings of Joe Reidy

From Virginia to the world, Joe Reidy shares his journey of authenticity, collaboration, and the power of introspection in his music.

Rachel Sinclair: Joe, it’s a pleasure to have you here. Let’s start with your decision not to adopt a stage name. What led you to prioritize authenticity over a persona, and how does that authenticity shine through in your music?

Joe Reidy: Hey Rachel, thanks for having me. For me, it’s always been about staying true to myself and my music. I felt that adopting a stage name would only detract from that authenticity. My music is a reflection of who I am, unfiltered and genuine, and I wanted that to be evident from the start.

Rachel Sinclair: Your journey as an independent artist with a bedroom recording studio is truly inspiring. How have your favorite artists, such as Mac Miller, Kota the Friend, and J Cole, influenced your sound and approach to music?

Joe Reidy: Oh, immensely. Each of these artists has left a profound impact on me, not just musically but also in terms of their independent spirit and creative vision. Finding my engineer, Kyle Williams, was a game-changer for me. He helped elevate my sound and showed me the boundless possibilities within my music.

Rachel Sinclair: Collaboration seems to play a significant role in your creative process. Can you share any memorable experiences or insights from working with local photographers, marketers, and artists like Dorian Whyte?

Joe Reidy: Collaboration is at the heart of everything I do. Working with local photographers and marketers to create my album art was a refreshing experience, adding visual depth to my music. And collaborating with Dorian Whyte on “Tree Climb” was truly special. His unique perspective added layers of depth to the song, enriching the overall narrative.

Rachel Sinclair: Your goal of helping people see new perspectives through interpersonal dialogue is admirable. How do you navigate the complexities of storytelling in your music, particularly in songs like “Tree Climb”?

Joe Reidy: Each song presents its own unique perspective, but the overarching goal remains the same: to encourage introspection and foster meaningful connections. With “Tree Climb,” I aimed to highlight the fleeting nature of time and the beauty found in simply experiencing life. It’s about embracing the journey and finding solace in the present moment.

Rachel Sinclair: Finding a feature artist who adds depth to the song sounds like a pivotal moment in your creative process. How did Dorian Whyte’s unique perspective enhance “Tree Climb,” and what do you look for in a collaborative partner?

Joe Reidy: Dorian brought a fresh perspective to “Tree Climb,” adding depth and nuance to the narrative. For me, collaboration is all about finding artists who complement my vision and bring something unique to the table. Dorian’s authenticity and storytelling prowess resonated with me, enriching the song in ways I couldn’t have imagined.

Rachel Sinclair: Your admiration for Kota the Friend’s independent approach is evident. How do you envision your music evolving in the future, particularly with the influence of fatherhood and potential collaborations with larger artists?

Joe Reidy: Fatherhood is a journey I’m eagerly anticipating, and I have no doubt it will influence my music in profound ways. As for collaborations, I’m open to exploring new avenues and working with artists who share my vision and passion for storytelling. It’s all about continuing to evolve and elevate my messages through music.

Rachel Sinclair: Before we conclude, any particular platforms or promotions you’re eager to explore for promoting your music, such as features and playlisting?

Joe Reidy: Absolutely. I’m committed to exploring various platforms and promotions to share my music with a wider audience. Features and playlisting are just a few avenues I’m eager to explore, connecting with listeners on a deeper level and sharing my stories with the world.
