What’s your stage name and where are you from?
My stage name is Joey Golden, and I’m from Sunnyside, Queens, New York.
What’s the story behind your stage name?
Rap name, real name, same thing. I used to have a rap name, J. ManifestO, but I discarded the mantle. I think myself is good enough. I don’t need a cloak.
Describe your musical journey in three sentences.
I started off deeply rooted in underground hip hop culture. I intend to make songs and bodies of work for a long time. I focus on my craft every day.
Share an interesting experience you had while creating your latest track.
My latest single “Fam Activity” was written just after my big brother’s funeral. It was very somber due to the circumstances but also warming to be around family that I don’t get to see often. Executing the song, along with this new project, was a form of healing for me.
What message do you want to convey through your music?
My message is the same message that Hip hop originally promoted: Peace, Love, Unity, and having fun.
Tell us about a challenge you faced during production and how you overcame it.
Transforming into a content creator against my own will is something I’ve had to deal with. No matter how many music videos my friends and I have made, we still have to reformat everything to fit this TikTok and reels stuff. I got over it by getting over myself—really just being defiant, because I just wanted to record music. It’s either evolve or die.
If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be and why?
I don’t even know. I’m ready for whoever. I like working with producers and singers as well as emcees.
Where do you see your music taking you in the next year?
More traveling, bigger performances so we can be introduced to more people. I also want to create, or at least be involved in, writing more books (we dropped a limited run this past year) and expand on what artist merchandise has been for me, beyond just clothing.
What’s the next big step for you as an artist?
Finding and helping a younger new artist from my hood in their beginning stages, at any capacity, as long as I can possibly give them a better start than I had.
We occasionally feature artists on our Bird of Paradise Podcast for in-depth discussions. Would this be something you’re interested in exploring?
Yes. I have years of podcast experience with my homies from Sole Searching Podcast. I’ll be ready.
Are there any other promotional opportunities you’re looking for to boost your visibility?
I have an album Home Grown with producer Thxk_U fka lo tek coming in November. I just released a feature with Chicago emcee Neak called “All Good Things Come to An End” available now. Fam Activity single is out now. My group Tha Joint’s latest release single “Ca Va” features French producer Damdam Alaprod, who also collaborated with us for the EP and accompanying fiction novel The Season.
Where can we hear/watch your most recent work?
On all streaming platforms for the music. Visit thajoint.bandcamp.com/merch for the book. Our home website, thajoint.com, is under construction at the moment.
What is the best way to contact you if fans want to give feedback or if other artists/producers want to collaborate?

I’ve been surfing online more than three hours nowadays, yet I never discovered any interesting article like yours. It is beautiful price enough for me. Personally, if all webmasters and bloggers made excellent content as you probably did, the internet will be much more helpful than ever before. “I finally realized that being grateful to my body was key to giving more love to myself.” by Oprah Winfrey.
