Q&A Interview with KOJ
Artist Introduction
What’s your name and where are you from?
My name is KOJ and I’m from Wavetree, Liverpool
What’s the story behind your stage name?
It’s a funny one really because my stage name has always been something that represents my character so well. Prior to ‘KOJ’ I was known as ‘Wavey Joe’ due to my unpredictable and sometimes erratic nature. With ‘KOJ’ my middle name is Kojo, but you know what scousers are like, we look to abbreviate anywhere possible
Describe your musical journey in three sentences
I came up doing pirate radio sets. I kept on grinding, watching others fade away into the modern struggles of “real life.” Now it’s time for the big leagues.
Fan Engagement
Share an interesting experience you had while creating your latest track.
It was strange writing A REMINDER because as I took that walk down memory lane, reminding myself of all of the achievements I’ve accomplished (no pun intended). It was a pleasant surprise reliving some of the amazing moments that I’d almost forgotten about over the years.
What message do you want to convey through your music?
I’m a man of the people. I want to enable people to be themselves fearlessly. I’m a living example of the fact that things can go wrong, you can lose everything, you can partake in actions that you’re not proud of – but it’s never too late to make a comeback and turn it all around
Behind the Music
Tell us about a challenge you faced during production and how you overcame it.
Good question. The thing is, when creating music it’s so easy to overcomplicate things. I always say perfection is the cousin of procrastination, and it is!! A lot of work went into A REMINDER and it was hard to know when to call it a finished product.
If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be and why?
Probably Gzuz from 187 Strassenbande. Hamburg has a really interesting and thriving hip hop scene and I would love to create over there and exchange cultures. I think the record to come out of that would be something special
Future Aspirations
Where do you see your music taking you in the next year?
Out of the country hopefully! As I said earlier, I would love to get my own eyes on European culture. Perform out there, connect and create out there too.
What’s the next big step for you as an artist?
Releasing Villain With A Conscience. My upcoming project is a captivating journey of a man stuck between two worlds, the world of light and the world of darkness. I’m really excited to get it out there and let the people feast their ears on something special
I’m always looking for new opportunities to connect with more people. Whether it be behind the scenes or something that will spread to the masses, I’m always looking to be in and amongst it. One of my aspirations is to do a Colors Show version of one of my latest songs
