Q&A Interview with Tre Houston

Lanzen Tate: Tre, your journey through the hip-hop landscape, from your early days in Houston to your current endeavors in Nashville, is truly remarkable. How has your background influenced your artistic vision?

Tre Houston: Lanzen, it’s been quite a ride indeed. Growing up in Houston, immersed in the hip-hop scene, I found myself dreaming of a genre that spoke to the depths of human experience. That dream led me to pursue a Music Business degree at Belmont University, where I eventually found myself collaborating with names I once admired from afar.

Lanzen Tate: Your collaboration with producer Will Cooper seems serendipitous, forged in the midst of a pandemic-induced apartment complex party scene. How has this partnership shaped your creative process?

Tre Houston: Will and I crossed paths in the most unexpected setting, and yet our shared passion for music instantly bonded us. Working together, we’ve strived to infuse our tracks with a genuine sense of humanity, regardless of the message we’re conveying. It’s about authenticity above all else.

Lanzen Tate: Your dedication to perfection, even down to adjusting a single vocal line by a fraction of a second, speaks volumes about your commitment to your craft. How do you balance your pursuit of excellence with the need to release your music to the world?

Tre Houston: It’s a delicate balance, Lanzen. I’ve learned that sometimes, the pursuit of perfection can become a barrier to sharing your art with the world. But for me, every adjustment, every tweak, is about ensuring that the message resonates authentically with my audience.

Lanzen Tate: Your influences, including Kendrick Lamar, Lupe Fiasco, and Brother Ali, reflect a diverse spectrum of hip-hop artistry. How have these artists shaped your own journey within the genre?

Tre Houston: Kendrick, Lupe, Brother Ali—each of them has left an indelible mark on me as both an artist and a listener. Their ability to blend storytelling with raw emotion has inspired me to dig deeper into my own experiences and translate them into music that speaks to others.

Lanzen Tate: Looking ahead, you’re setting your sights on expanding your audience and solidifying your presence as an artist. What are your aspirations for the future?

Tre Houston: My ultimate goal is to connect with more listeners, to share the joy and authenticity that hip-hop has brought into my life. If I can reach 100,000 monthly listeners—well, that would be a dream come true. I’m ready to step out from behind the scenes and claim my place as an artist in my own right.

Lanzen Tate: Tre, it’s clear that you’re on the cusp of something truly special in your career. What can your fans expect from you in the coming months?

Tre Houston: Lanzen, I’ve got a slew of projects in the pipeline—EPs, an album, and plenty of singles—all aimed at showcasing the depth and diversity of my artistry. I’m always on the lookout for new opportunities to share my music with the world.

Lanzen Tate: Well, Tre, it’s been a pleasure diving into your world of hip-hop and creativity. Any final thoughts you’d like to share with our readers?

Tre Houston: Always keep your ears open, because you never know where the next great beat or lyric might come from. And to all my fans out there, thank you for riding with me on this journey. The best is yet to come.
