What’s your stage name and where are you from?

Lord Cassius Jay, NYC

What’s the story behind your stage name?

The name was inspired by Muhammad Ali, who’s a big inspiration to me. When Muhammad went by his birth name, he was still building a name and his foundation. He was often looked at as the underdog in his bouts yet he never wavered. He still went out and beat Sonny Liston although the odds weren’t in his favor. I can relate to that because I often feel like the underdog but no matter what I’m always gonna perform and put on a good show. The Lord part in my name I got from Game of Thrones, which I’m a big fan of.

Describe your musical journey in three sentences.

I made my first song in College back in 2015 and recorded in it the news room. After that, I didn’t make another song until I fell back in love with writing in 2023. Now I’m just exploring and trying to create music that possesses various genres.

I’ve been trying to learn how to mix and master music too and it’s not easy. Still having fun with it though.

What message do you want to convey through your music?

That there’s no limits to creativity. There’s no blueprint. I just want to show that you can have fun expressing your thoughts with art and portray various emotions and moods.

Tell us about a challenge you faced during production and how you overcame it.

I find it the most challenging deciding which song to drop. I just go off instinct now and don’t think too much about it.

If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be and why?

J Cole would be my go-to collaboration. His music got me through a lot in my life. He was like a mentor through music.

Where do you see your music taking you in the next year?

Hopefully on tour.

What’s the next big step for you as an artist?

Get some big collaborations in the music scene. I feel like my style can go well with a bunch of different genres too.
