What’s your stage name and where are you from?
My name is Luc Patrick and I’m from Mississauga, Ontario
What’s the story behind your stage name?
I used to go by the name of Johnnyb when I first started rapping. Over the years as I learned to embrace myself for who I am, I dropped the moniker and decided to go by my own name, Luc Patrick.
Describe your musical journey in three sentences.
My musical started off with both guitar and piano at the age of 12, which is also around the time I began to learn about production. After fronting a metal band and being kicked out, I found my calling in rap music at age 15 and I’ve been a dedicated MC ever since. I’m constantly striving to push the boundaries of both myself and my music.
Share an interesting experience you had while creating your latest track.
I recorded a few songs for my upcoming EP “Don’t Close Your Eyez” before I recorded 2 Step (my latest release). By the time we got to recording 2 Step, I had pretty much used up my vocal chords for the day; which lent itself to the overall raspiness of my vocals on the track. After the first take we realized it suited the vibe, so I tried my best to not drink any water until we were done recording.
What message do you want to convey through your music?
I’ve faced a lot of trauma throughout my life, and my ultimate goal is to create music that resonates with anyone experiencing similar pain. My music is for the kids and for the adults who never had the chance to truly be children.
My upcoming EP, “Don’t Close Your Eyez,” delves into darker themes compared to my previous work. It explores mental health, addiction, and self-reflection, encapsulating the struggles I’ve endured over the past decade. Through this project, I hope to offer solace and understanding to those who need it most.
Tell us about a challenge you faced during production and how you overcame it.
My biggest problem faced during production is always the desire to do more. It’s very easy to over work or add too much at times. More often than not I’m reminding myself to keep the beat simple and let the lyrics and vocals do the work. Alchemist said it best, and pardon me I’m paraphrasing, “the beat is the bed for the vocals, and lyrics. Give room for the artist to shine.”
If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be and why?
Hmm, that’s definitely a tough question. There are way too many artists I would love to collaborate with the obvious choice for me being Mac Miller; his music has gotten me through a lot in my life. Given he’s passed away, I’ll select one live artist, which would be J. Cole. I feel like working with him would push me to give my absolute best on a track.
Where do you see your music taking you in the next year?
Well I see it taking me much farther than last year that’s for sure. My goals for 2025 were to double the amount of streams I got in 2024 (7k) as well as to start performing. I’m really excited to do some shows. I just want to engage the community; I want the city to know I’m here.
What’s the next big step for you as an artist?
Next big step would likely be more along the content side of things. Music videos, Q&A’s like this one, shows, interviews. I want to create opportunities to connect with fans and create new ones in the process.
Where can we hear/watch your most recent work?
Spotify, Apple Music, Youtube Music – basically ANY streaming platform. Luc Patrick, search it up. I’ve got an old Soundcloud kicking around with some bangers that will never see the light of day anywhere else too.
