Artist Introduction

What’s your name and where are you from?

MALCOLMXTASY (Reuben Massey Jr) I’m originally from Chicago IL, but have lived in Atlanta most of my life.

What’s the story behind your stage name?

I thought it was clever play on words initially. But in the same way Malcolm X wanted to shed his slave name, I wanted to shed who I was before I started creating.

Describe your musical journey in three sentences.

The music industry is not for the weak of heart I couldn’t imagine doing anything else You’re only as good as your team

Fan Engagement

Share an interesting experience you had while creating your latest track.

I was on mushrooms for the majority of my last session

What message do you want to convey through your music?

Depends on the track and the energy I’m going for. A lot of stuff I just make for fun bc i like to party and turn up so I’m not really focused on complex rhyming/schemes and the more technical aspects. But on tracks like math ain’t mathin I definitely wanted to get a point across e.g school being pointless, inflation, government corruption, and how we’re watching society implode in front of us

Behind the Music

Tell us about a challenge you faced during production and how you overcame it.

Sessions never go perfectly I have stories for days about having to scrap entire verses on the spot, writing and recording entire songs off the dome to fit a new beat, stuff like that. You have to learn to be adaptable during your recording and creative process. Before I started going to professional studios my mic stand broke, so I recorded two demos holding the mic on my hand the entire time.

If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be and why?

It’s tough to pick just one but right now Denzel Curry and Zack Fox would be 1 and 1a. They have crazy unique styles and beat selections that I think I could compliment well. They also seem like cool ass niggas.

Future Aspirations

Where do you see your music taking you in the next year?

Hopefully building my fanbase to the point where I can do some local touring

What’s the next big step for you as an artist?

A really solid collaboration and dropping an entire project. I already have an EP recorded so I guess the next step would be an album. That and getting more opportunities for live shows.
