What’s your stage name and where are you from?
My stage name is Mama Tjutju, and I am from Denmark (half Danish, half Dutch).
What’s the story behind your stage name?
Mama Tjutju is a version of me that expresses a powerful voice. My partner called me Tjutju, an endearment from India, and Mama Tjutju is the bigger, created version of that.
Describe your musical journey in three sentences.
I started with the piano at 4 years old and played all my life. I found my voice later, recording in South Africa, which changed my life. Iceland connected me to my Singer-Songwriter side, and “Come Ma Way” was born there.
Share an interesting experience you had while creating your latest track.
“Come Ma Way” was created in a cabin in Iceland in one take. It was a spontaneous, soulful moment after a long day of driving, with a simple beat and keys. By the end of it, the atmosphere was electric, and it’s my most powerful musical experience.
What message do you want to convey through your music?
I want to convey honesty, vulnerability, soul, and courage. My music is raw and nourishing, like unprocessed food, providing listeners with a sense of fulfillment.
Tell us about a challenge you faced during production and how you overcame it.
Opening up to such a level of vulnerability took being in a remote cabin in Iceland. I tuned out external voices, trusted my instincts, and let the song be as long as it wanted to be.
If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be and why?
Alicia Keys, for her warmth and soulful vocals. Jacob Collier and Aurora are also artists I admire.
Where do you see your music taking you in the next year?
I’ll be playing more live shows, releasing new projects, and collaborating with other artists. Iceland will inspire more creations as I return there.
What’s the next big step for you as an artist?
To release solo piano projects, perform live more, and collaborate with producers in genres like tropical house, chill hop, and Lofi jazz.
We occasionally feature artists on our Bird of Paradise Podcast for in-depth discussions. Would this be something you’re interested in exploring?
Absolutely, you have a great vibe.
Are there any other promotional opportunities you’re looking for to boost your visibility?
Yes, I’m looking for collaborators and producers for future projects, and I’d love to do an online live show.
Where can we hear/watch your most recent work?
Spotify.
What is the best way to contact you if fans want to give feedback or if other artists/producers want to collaborate?
Email me at tjutjumusic@gmail.com. I’m open to collaboration requests.
