What’s your stage name and where are you from?
Mike Sharp and Corning N.Y.
What’s the story behind your stage name?
Well my real name is Michael, my nickname is Mikey. I know this sounds like a lame backstory but I literally put my name in a random nickname generator and then found “Mike Sharp” and loved it
Describe your musical journey in three sentences.
Started to freestyle over beats with my buddies when I was in 8th grades, when I realized I was pretty good at it. I created a SoundCloud page the next day and downloaded garage band on my phone. The rest is history
Share an interesting experience you had while creating your latest track.
Honestly I do not have many fans so the people that hear my music are my family and friends, but my cousin said my song “Santa Homie” was one of the only songs that got him into the Christmas Spirit. All the other songs have been overplayed and didn’t cheer him up.
What message do you want to convey through your music?
I’d like to convey the message that music is supposed to be fun. Although I make it everyday and treat it more like a job instead of a hobby, it is like doing work that you love.
Tell us about a challenge you faced during production and how you overcame it.
Getting my music to sound professional with in my own house . The way I over came this was by learning what plugins were and learning how to clean up my music in general
If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be and why?
Mac Miller, because he is a true musical genius. It is crazy to me how someone so talented could be so tormented. Not only is he talented and can play anything from scratch, he seemed like a great person. Always seemed to make people smile and never put others down. I wish I could collab with him
Where do you see your music taking you in the next year?
I see my page taking off into the thousands for listeners instead of the single digits
What’s the next big step for you as an artist?
Getting my music out there, and getting real fans besides my friends and family. Also getting into professional studios and not my basement
