What’s your stage name and where are you from?
My stage name is Nazzy the Mic, and I’m from Philadelphia, PA.
What’s the story behind your stage name?
I’ve been called Nazzy for the longest; I can’t even remember when it started, but I added “the Mic” because I’m in a whole other zone when the mic is in my hand.
Describe your musical journey in three sentences.
I started rapping at 6 in local cyphers or at least attempting to. I started going to the studio when I was 12 and released my first track professionally at 16. I’ve charted on iTunes, Spotify, and more; I’m working hard every day to make it.
Share an interesting experience you had while creating your latest track.
I’m often writing about my actual life, so sometimes I’m crying, sometimes I’m upset, but the last track I wrote, I was so in love; I was in the zone, just to break up the next week, LOL.
What message do you want to convey through your music?
I’m far more sensitive than I sometimes convey, but I make music for people like me who wear their emotions on their sleeve even when they try to pretend otherwise. I love hard, hate hard, and be sad hard. I just hope people get it and vibe with me.
Tell us about a challenge you faced during production and how you overcame it.
Sometimes what I write and how it feels in the booth are different things. I’ll sometimes either step out of the booth or just work on another track till I get my mojo back or change up my flow and make it work. Also, I often go to the studio with my peeps, so feedback is important.
If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be and why?
The list is long, but I wanna try something out of my comfort zone, so maybe Glorilla. Not just because she’s a female rapper too, but I really like her style, and I think we could play off our vibes and strengths.
Where do you see your music taking you in the next year?
Everyone says it, but I legitimately feel like I’m gonna blow next year. I’m working on some new sounds and vibes, but what I’ve done and what I’m doing, I think it’s finally gonna happen.
What’s the next big step for you as an artist?
I’m hoping to go to South Africa to record in November, but either way, I’m working on my next album and working hard to make it better than anything I’ve ever done.
We occasionally feature artists on our Bird of Paradise Podcast for in-depth discussions. Would this be something you’re interested in exploring?
Yes, absolutely.
Are there any other promotional opportunities you’re looking for to boost your visibility?
I’m open to anything to get my voice heard.
