What’s your stage name and where are you from?
Orthentix.
What’s the story behind your stage name?
My name is a fusion of “authentic” and “organic” as my music authentically expresses my experiences. I use a lot of organic instruments in my music, even when they are represented by synths.
Describe your musical journey in three sentences.
Music was always a passion of mine growing up. I studied sound production, audio production, music production, and musicology. Now, I live music—from working in radio and at festivals to producing, releasing my own music, and DJ’ing.
Share an interesting experience you had while creating your latest track.
After completing a Women in Music mentorship and a songwriting workshop, I collaborated with Feline on “Depth Sword,” a Drum and Bass track. We filmed the accompanying music video at the Lismore Lantern Parade using iPhones, reflecting the community spirit after catastrophic floods.
What message do you want to convey through your music?
Conceptually, my music delves into introspection, mirroring the human experience. Sonically, it’s all about phat basslines, lush melodies, and profound vocal hooks, with a political focus on feminism.
Tell us about a challenge you faced during production and how you overcame it.
Balancing motherhood with finding time for music and making money is my biggest challenge.
If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be and why?
I’d love to collab with Alison Wonderland—she’s amazing!
Where do you see your music taking you in the next year?
I plan on writing new material and getting more gigs, with hopes to play overseas in Europe or the States.
What’s the next big step for you as an artist?
I’d love to play overseas in Europe or the States.
We occasionally feature artists on our Bird of Paradise Podcast for in-depth discussions. Would this be something you’re interested in exploring?
Yes, I’d love to do a podcast interview.
Are there any other promotional opportunities you’re looking for to boost your visibility?
Yes, I’m always on the lookout, as being an artist in Australia comes with its challenges.
Where can we hear/watch your most recent work?
You can find my releases on Spotify, Soundcloud, or YouTube.
What is the best way to contact you if fans want to give feedback or if other artists/producers want to collaborate?
Send me a DM on Instagram, PM Facebook, or message me via my website.
