Artist Introduction
What’s your stage name and where are you from?
Reedus 3m and I am from Westwood, Massachusetts.
What’s the story behind your stage name?
My stage name has two parts. The first part “Reedus” comes from a combination of my first name Farid and an ode to one of my favorite lyricists Earl Sweatshirt. I don’t remember where I saw it but I think there is an interview somewhere on the internet where he talks about his affinity of old/older sounding names which is why he chose to call himself Earl. I just put my own spin on his idea using my first name. The second part of my stage “3m” comes from a Hadith. Hadiths are statements from the Prophet Muhammed, peace be upon him. It was reported by Abu Huraira that a person asked Allah’s messenger, Prophet Muhammed (PBUH) , “who amongst the people is most deserving of my good treatment? He said: Your mother, again your mother, again your mother, then your father, then your nearest relatives according to the order (of nearness)”. So our mothers being mentioned 3 times is where “3m” comes from. Our best treatment should go towards our mothers 3 times before anyone else.
Describe your musical journey in three sentences.
I started becoming serious about rap circa 2015 with my first ep “Those Who Wait” that released on Soundcloud. Not too long after that I started to learn how to produce my own music because I wanted to figure out the best way to realize what “my sound” actually was and I thought that would be a great way to do it. Once I got better at producing my own stuff I released my first 10-track album “Late Bloomer” on December 21, 2018 and I have been making beats for other artists projects and releasing my own singles ever since.
Fan Engagement
Share an interesting experience you had while creating your latest track.
Believe it or not I made the instrumental for the song “Feeling Back” and finished writing the song all in one night, and I was pretty proud of myself because before that day for some time I was going through a bit of a creative block so I was happy to be able to make something I really liked so quick.
What message do you want to convey through your music?
I think that the listener can decide that, I just talk about my life and my experiences. I always felt like I had something to say so I’m gonna speak up for as long as I have the ability to.
Behind the Music
Tell us about a challenge you faced during production and how you overcame it.
Like I said earlier I didn’t really face much adversity finishing this track, it all kinda just came to me.
If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be and why?
Oh there’s so many people I would love to collab with but I am just focused on getting better right now. To name a few people though, definitely Earl Sweatshirt, MIKE, femdot, WAVEBOYCOLOR, Trevor Spitta and Jeleel!
Future Aspirations
Where do you see your music taking you in the next year?
Honestly if I can stay consistent, I think the sky’s the limit.
What’s the next big step for you as an artist?
I want to get in to sync licensing, maybe collaborate with some bigger names and i’m trying to drop and album it’s been too long, gotta get back to it.
