What’s your stage name and where are you from?
My stage name is Sheldon Gava, and I’m from Jamaica.
What’s the story behind your stage name?
Sheldon is my birth name, and Gava’s African meaning is “Nourishment through understanding,” which I can identify with.
Describe your musical journey in three sentences.
As a creative, I have fun and enjoy creating new music. Naturally, as a poet, songwriting is as simple as being strictly rhythm-driven. I try to make each song have purpose by incorporating positive messages in my work.
Share an interesting experience you had while creating your latest track.
While creating this song, rappers Remy Martin and her husband Papoose were dominating headlines with their divorce drama. This made me realize these lyrics are definitely relatable, lol.
What message do you want to convey through your music?
We are all here for a reason, so we must always respect each other.
Tell us about a challenge you faced during production and how you overcame it.
It was actually a relatively smooth and organic process working on this song—great energy!
If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be and why?
It would have been Gregory Isaacs because he was Reggae music’s Cool Ruler.
Where do you see your music taking you in the next year?
Stages near and far.
What’s the next big step for you as an artist?
Finding my own band for live shows. Currently, I perform using tracks, which does not do my music justice, in my opinion.
