What’s your stage name and where are you from?
My stage name is SingleMaltPlease, and I’m from New Orleans, Louisiana.
What’s the story behind your stage name?
Sometimes you just want to make it to the top shelf… Musically, Humanely.
Describe your musical journey in three sentences.
A groovistic journey through time and experiences: chaotic, surprising, resilient, and beautiful.
It’s a journey with an expected but uncertain destination, where as musicians, we’re only pushed by the need for creativity that animates our musical vessel.
We navigate a falling-apart music business system that, in the end, doesn’t really have anything to do with… the music.
Share an interesting experience you had while creating your latest track.
While we spent months working on the songs for the album, Turning Point was a last-minute addition. It was written, learned, and recorded in less than a month.
What message do you want to convey through your music?
We’re a jazz fusion band, and most of our songs are instrumental.
As musicians, we aim to express, with our instruments, all the feelings anyone can experience, and by sharing those feelings, we connect with the audience.
It’s a way to feel together in something, even if it’s just during a solo or a melody.
As a band, sharing the same opinions helps create a unique symbiosis when we play together. We stand for the respect and restoration of people’s rights to live, love, exist, and survive.
Tell us about a challenge you faced during production and how you overcame it.
Our main challenge was the financial aspect of the project.
Between recording, mixing, mastering, and artwork, it was already a few thousand dollars.
Then came after-production costs like copyright, distribution, CD printing, and various submissions for reviews or playlist placements, which added even more expenses.
We overcame this with the precious help of our community through a GoFundMe campaign and by saving a little from every performance for quite a few years.
If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be and why?
Honestly, I would love to collaborate with everyone! Sharing musical inspiration is the most beautiful thing and makes each performance special and exciting in its own way.
Becoming the opening band for Ghost-Note on a whole tour would be really amazing… Just saying!
Where do you see your music taking you in the next year?
Everywhere. Touring and sharing our music is the plan!
What’s the next big step for you as an artist?
The next step is to find representation in the music industry—management, a booking agent, and a label.
