What’s your stage name and where are you from?

Strange Breed from London, Ontario, Canada

What’s the story behind your stage name?

I’ve always tried to provide a very honest and different approach to music. I’m Strange, it’s Strange so Strange Breed just made sense.

Describe your musical journey in three sentences.

I grew up with music constantly playing and on my mind. What stemmed from constant concert attending and music consuming became a need to create. I share my story, the stories of others and things I believe in with the collaboration of talented artists and friends around me.

Share an interesting experience you had while creating your latest track.

Swimming Upstream was an adventure to make. It started as a conversation with a close friend and fellow artist Shaunthadon when we were hanging out in Brooklyn. We agreed on the idea of a single consciousness and how most of our daily life seemed to be based off habits. It slowly evolved into the idea of Swimming Upstream as we really tried to dissect what makes us who we are and who’s pulling the strings.

What message do you want to convey through your music?

Honesty. Everyone should be who they are, share what they believe in and fight for what they think is right. I can only offer my truth, and hope in doing so as raw as possible will inspire others to do the same.

Tell us about a challenge you faced during production and how you overcame it.

Shaun and I live in two different countries, so sharing files back and forth and writing duties online was hard to get used to. Luckily we are both very adaptive and seemed to both be able to rise to the occasion.

If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be and why?

Gorillaz. They were one of my first and biggest influences and remain still to this day. I would love to guest on a track with Damon as he seems to be a master of collaboration, something which means so much to me in my own approach to music.

Where do you see your music taking you in the next year?

Hoping to have a new album released for each project I’m involved in. The more music out there the better.

What’s the next big step for you as an artist?

A Tour. I’ve done some shows out of town and even out of Country, but never more than a two day journey. My biggest goal is to line up a couple weeks of shows and just get out on the road, soak in all that blood, sweat and tears.
