Artist Introduction
What’s your stagename and where are you from?
Ya Msanii is my stage name and I’m from Detroit to Dallas
What’s the story behind your stage name?
Ya Msanii is Swahili for “The Artist” so you too are Ya Msanii in whatever your craft is, as all crafts are just a form of artistry.
Describe your musical journey in three sentences.
My musical journey started in Detroit, where Motown and J Dilla’s unique sound shaped my early influences. From writing poetry at 10 to mastering the styles of legendary artists, I’ve fused these influences with a ninja philosophy and divine messages to create a sound that’s all my own.
Fan Engagement
Share an interesting experience you had while creating your latest track.
“Grateful (444)” is my latest release. When I first heard the beat, with its powerful organs, I immediately received a message from God to create a song about being grateful for what I have. The result, “Grateful (444)”, has become my most popular track to date, showing me that people everywhere are searching for something to be thankful for amidst their hardships. This global embrace of gratitude is a positive step for humanity, and we must continue to build on it, uniting as a people of all shades.
What message do you want to convey through your music?
The message I want to convey with my music is that I’m not here to preach; the topics I explore are my higher self, Ya Msanii, speaking to me, guiding me to become the best version of myself. If you resonate with my music, it’s not because you’re following me, it’s your higher self speaking to you, urging you to connect more deeply with who you truly are.
Behind the Music
Tell us about a challenge you faced during production and how you overcame it.
The challenge I most often face is securing the finances to mix and master my songs to a high standard. I create music so quickly, often writing entire songs in just 10 minutes, that the production costs add up fast. That’s why I have my Cash App link on my Instagram for anyone who wants to support my work. Your donations will be greatly appreciated and used productively to bring my music to life.
If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be and why?
If I could collaborate with any artist, it would be anyone who shares the same frequency of uplifting people and love energy. I collaborate immediately with such artists because life is unpredictable, and I believe in taking action in the moment. Therefore, there’s no artist I’d want to collaborate with that I haven’t already, as I make sure to connect and create together as soon as we meet.
Future Aspirations
Where do you see your music taking you in the next year?
In the next year, I see my music taking me to a place where I can live off of it and support my family. I also envision it bringing me around the globe, where I can’t wait to meet you in your native land.
What’s the next big step for you as an artist?
The next big step for me as an artist is to stay in attack mode and keep creating even more for you. So stay tuned, there’s way more on the way!
