What’s your stage name and where are you from?
My stage name is Zehbrah, and I’m from Atlanta, GA.
What’s the story behind your stage name?
Zebras tend to stand out when they are among other animals, but they blend in when they are around other zebras.
Describe your musical journey in three sentences.
My musical journey is ever ongoing. I think I am still in the early to intermediate stages. I just want to be able to express my thoughts and hopefully have other people connect on the same level.
Share an interesting experience you had while creating your latest track.
“V Timely” was fun to create because it was inspired by watching a Marvel cartoon with my son, and he mentioned that he remembered playing in leaves in the fall. This sparked most of the lyrics in the song.
What message do you want to convey through your music?
Most of my music tends to deal with existential themes. Hopefully, those that connect with it will feel more comfort in knowing other people deal with these thoughts.
Tell us about a challenge you faced during production and how you overcame it.
It was a bit difficult to get the flow right for this song. I tend to write the lyrics and then find a beat, which often means I have to adjust the initial flow of the words to fit. This sometimes makes songs sound rigid. Hopefully, “V Timely” does not sound too rigid.
If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be and why?
Childish Gambino. I feel like he and I are most similar in terms of mindset and ideas, though our styles are usually very different.
Where do you see your music taking you in the next year?
I hope that I can reach 100,000 streams.
What’s the next big step for you as an artist?
Releasing “FOUR” by October. This project is based on several Marvel characters, using ethereal and experimental beats to explore themes of predestination, existentialism, and personal agency.
We occasionally feature artists on our Bird of Paradise Podcast for in-depth discussions. Would this be something you’re interested in exploring?
Sure – though I would be very nervous.
Are there any other promotional opportunities you’re looking for to boost your visibility?
Yeah, but I don’t know what they would be.
Where can we hear/watch your most recent work?
Zehbrah on all streaming platforms. SoundCloud and YouTube tend to get the music first. Would be dope if you check out “Dark Version Demo” and “FOUR” when it comes out at the end of September.
What is the best way to contact you if fans want to give feedback or if other artists/producers want to collaborate?
