Zim’s “Hues” Finds Color in the Waiting Game

Zim has shared that he’s on the verge of dropping albums with some respected names in underground hip-hop. Rather than sit around waiting for those projects to arrive, he’s been putting out singles he genuinely likes. That approach says something about an artist who wants to keep his own creative wheels turning, even while bigger collaborations are on the horizon.

The title “Hues” invites thoughts of perspective, shifting shades, and the different colors that make up an artist’s world. Without the lyrics or audio in front of us, we won’t pretend to know exactly what Zim is painting here. What we do know is that he’s taking responsibility for his own material, handling both the writing and production instead of leaving the creative direction entirely in somebody else’s hands.

That independence matters in underground hip-hop, where collaboration can open doors but a distinct creative identity is what keeps people listening. A name-drop might get somebody to press play once. The artist’s own work has to give them a reason to return.
