What’s your stage name and where are you from?
My stage name is 92MONTIE, and I’m from Morton, MS.
What’s the story behind your stage name?
I’ve always been called Montie or MONT since I was a kid. I added the 92 because, of course, the ’90s was definitely the best time to be alive right now.
Describe your musical journey in three sentences.
It’s been a process. It’s taught me how to accept criticism. It’s taught me how to channel my emotions.
Share an interesting experience you had while creating your latest track.
My last track, “DUMPIN,” was created with a guy named Louie Yern from Nigeria. I’ve actually come across a lot of great artists in this musical journey.
What message do you want to convey through your music?
I want to let people know that no matter the circumstances or what life throws at you, keep going, keep pushing—there is a light at the end of the tunnel.
Tell us about a challenge you faced during production and how you overcame it.
My biggest challenge is finding someone who has the same drive and vision I have for how my music should sound—basically, finding the right engineer.
If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be and why?
Wiz Khalifa, most definitely. Dude’s been my idol since Star Power!
Where do you see your music taking you in the next year?
I see my music taking me to more states to perform and getting heard by the right people.
What’s the next big step for you as an artist?
My next big step is a performance I have in December in front of some industry executives. Slick nervous, but excited!
