Artist Spotlight: DTM from Arizona (currently in Utah)

What’s your stage name and where are you from?
My stage name is DTM, and I was born and raised in Arizona, but currently live in Utah.

What’s the story behind your stage name?
My stage name is boring at face value, as it is just my initials. But it opens new meaning when I explain that music has always been a passion, and my music is a part of me. My stage name represents who I am as an artist, and so does my music. The only thing I am is uniquely me. I chose not to hide behind any label but to embrace the real me.

Describe your musical journey in three sentences.
My journey began smoothly, having a producer and a small team behind me. I split from my producer and learned all the skills and traits I needed to make my own music. After the split, my first project landed me on the European Commercial Pop chart, and I have been moving upward ever since.

Share an interesting experience you had while creating your latest track.
I try to make every songwriting experience unique. I never sit down intending to write a specific song. My last song was a special moment where, in the middle of writer’s block, I altered my beat, and something clicked. It gave me the lyrical inspiration I needed, and the song was done in an hour and a half after that.

What message do you want to convey through your music?
I really want to connect through emotions and real-life human experiences. There’s not a single emotion that stands out; I hope to convey each and every emotion as someone moves through my catalogue.

Tell us about a challenge you faced during production and how you overcame it.
Once, I was 99% done with a song, and my computer decided to update and restart. This was before I had autosave activated on my DAW. I lost the entire project. Upsetting as it was, I went back and made a new song. That song ended up hitting #8 on a Billboard chart. Funny, because no one knows that happened but you now!

If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be and why?
I can’t pick just one. My dream collaborations would be Nic D, Mike., and Blackbear. Musically, they all inspire me in their own way. Nic D and Mike. were pivotal in showing me that there can be success in the indie world. They would all be amazing to work with.

Where do you see your music taking you in the next year?
With the rate of growth I’ve seen in the last couple of months, I see myself with a large enough audience to finally drop my first album, and after that, move to becoming a full-time musician.

What’s the next big step for you as an artist?
My next big step as an artist is currently in the works. Some friends and I are trying to create a platform of sorts to help find collaborations within the indie artist network—a sort of “connection hub,” if you will. This should help me grow to the next level and help other indie artists, no matter what stage of their journey they’re in.

Where can we hear/watch your most recent work?
By searching “DTM” on all platforms—Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music, etc.—you can find it there.

What is the best way to contact you if fans want to give feedback or if other artists/producers want to collaborate?
Email: thedtmofficial@gmail.com. I check this multiple times a day.
