Artist Introduction
What’s your stage name and where are you from?
Ace of Spades. Windsor, Ontario, Canada.
What’s the story behind your stage name?
It was the first name that I came up with. At the time I was a half lazy entity so I tried to think of a couple more and none fit so I just kept it. In the end it turned out amazing though, because its kind of of a metaphor for the best and the worst. The highest and the lowest. Just like the Ace of spades card can represent depending on the game being played or its actual Real Life implication. Its a representation of my struggles and how i went from being eradicated emotionally and headed towards become the most gigantic loser in the world to become an extremely disciplined, intelligent, gifted, empathetic and open minded person on the verge of fulfilling his biggest goals.
Describe your musical journey in three sentences.
Music is one of the only reasons I was able to choose the correct fork in the road instead of become a statistic in a medical book that showed the world “THIS IS EXACTLY HOW ONE DOES NOT SUCEED IN LIFE”. Music has made me laugh, cry, find peace, rage, love, hate, think, discover, overcome and have every thought and emotion in between. It literally helped me Find Myself and helped me become Who I Need To Be.
Fan Engagement
Share an interesting experience you had while creating your latest track.
Ace of Spades – Find Myself It may not be believed (explained near the end why) but the initial idea behind the track is similar to that of the approach Eminem took on the songs Castle and Arose where in Castle the song ends badly but in Arose (A completely different song) uses part of the verse from Castle (and the beat from Castle) where he fails in Life in the End but in Arose just when he’s about to fail, the lyrics change into that of success and he closes out Arose with a different version of Castle. Although this concept happens at the beginning of Find Myself (not the end like Eminem’s songs) Its a concept I came up with in about 2010. (When I was misguided, 2 Thirds Lazy and did not take my music career seriously). And, Not in any insulative sense but when I heard those 2 Eminem songs in 2017 I found it cool that it was a concept I had already come up with. Its possible this concept has already been created before the both of us but I always held this concept in high regard and thought of it as one of my greatest musical achievements. I started the first few lines of this song about 14 years ago and just this past 16 months found the strength to begin pursuing my passion and this is one of the songs that came out of me. This song was a long time in the making and literally part of Finding Myself and Becoming Who I Need To Be.
What message do you want to convey through your music?
That just because all the cards in the deck are stacked against you and everyone and every sign shows you that you aren’t worth it and that you’re meant to fail in life. That doesn’t mean you have to listen. All that means is that you ARE worth it and this is what makes you special when you turn that mindset around. All your Weakest detriments then become your Greatest gifts.
Behind the Music
Tell us about a challenge you faced during production and how you overcame it.
Nothing in the actual technical creative process. This songs first few lines were developed in about 2010. This was a decade and a half journey of emotional evisceration due to negative choices and me learning to overcome the pain and choose the best path for peace, happiness and success. This song Find Myself literally helped me Find Myself.
If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be and why?
Eminem. Musically he’s been my biggest inspiration and although we had different up bringings we developed the same unbreakable mindset and passion in Life that shines through in our artistic endeavors. Its nice when 2 sides of a coin are able to find an empathetic synergy and uses their differences as diversity.
Future Aspirations
Where do you see your music taking you in the next year?
Making music so I can make enough money so I’m in such an awesome position that i can just wake up and make more music.
What’s the next big step for you as an artist?
To be able to make music for a living with no need to focus on any career outside of it. The biggest appeal of money to me is the freedom its buys you. Not the material and tangible.
