What’s your stage name and where are you from?
My name is “FM Wu” and I am from Washington D.C.
What’s the story behind your stage name?
“FM” stands for Finesse Mob and my name is Daawud so I take the “Wu” from that, Finesse Mob means finessing life to work your way or finessing the system to bend in your favor.
Describe your musical journey in three sentences.
Ultimately my musical journey has just been me failing over and over again until I get it right. Most times I still don’t feel like I have anything under control, or know what the next move is. Since music is something I 100% want to do I’ll always keep turning back to it no matter how much i fail.
Fan Engagement
Share an interesting experience you had while creating your latest track.
Creating “Burn” was really fun and also therapeutic at the same time. I let out so much personal stuff on this song that it just felt like a weight was lifted off my shoulders while writing. The second I rapped the first few lines in the booth my engineer stopped me and said “Yea your a dawg, this is fire”
What message do you want to convey through your music?
I don’t necessarily have a specific message to convey through my music I just use it as an outlet to vent and say all the things that I don’t have anyone to talk to about.
Behind the Music
Tell us about a challenge you faced during production and how you overcame it.
Finding a pocket for the part where I laugh and come back to rapping was pretty tough.
If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be and why?
Definitely Tyler, The Creator the way he creates a story and theme around everything he does while also reinventing himself with every release is something I try to mimic with my music so bringing those two worlds together would be insane.
Future Aspirations
Where do you see your music taking you in the next year?
In the next year I will be throwing my own shows local and out of state hopefully
What’s the next big step for you as an artist?
The next big step for me is my first headlining show on August 8th, and my project dropping shortly after.
