What’s your stage name and where are you from?
Barbaydose and we are a Hip-Hop trio from the Bay Area of California. The three members have origins in California , Mississippi and Hawaii.
What’s the story behind your stage name?
Barbaydose the name stems from a word game that Bsidez and Weinthecloud were playing during one of our sessions early in the collaboration. Basically the two would come up with words or names that had a similar beginning sound as the word bar and would replace the start with Bar. Like Bar-shawn Lynch, Bar Simpson, Kendrick LaBar etc.. Within that process we said we were chilling in Barbaydose California. From there the name kinda stuck with us while we were creating the first album Future Reminiscent. Later we found the word Barbaydose broken down into pieces means “sons with the gift of words “ in some ancient languages. The fact we that we are sons with the gift of words is really dope!
Describe your musical journey in three sentences.
We are gonna answer this individually if that’s cool.
Bsidez: One step turned into a pathway to the infinite. Still learning the craft many years later from past and present creators. Channeling ancestors became the way to connect to y’all.
WeIntheCloud: records in elementary music class gave me the basics.
Junior High school and high school gave me structure in musical theory and instrumentation.
Studious adventure started with my inception in the bay, getting acclimated and being on the scene helped me cultivate my current sound and evolved my recording/performing skills.
Hiright: skate videos to turntables. Turntables to beats. Beats and rhymes.
Share an interesting experience you had while creating your latest track.
Hiright put on the beat and Bsidez immediately started chanting what became the hook as WeIntheCloud streamed the session for the first time online. We are usually very selective about what we share and how we share it. So this was a new thing for us. It shows that even after years of collaboration there can new paths and new ways to create and present the art.
What message do you want to convey through your music?
WeIntheCloud: Hit the right frequencies. Speaking in the microphone with the right motivations, you can be inspired to emanate unique light to the world.
Bsidez: I want people to find their own truth because I feel truth is individual and hopefully the gems that we drop will help you look up and find who you are supposed to be.
Tell us about a challenge you faced during production and how you overcame it.
Didn’t have no papers!
There’s a scene in the movie how high where red man’s weed flys out of his car and method man loses the paper. That’s how we keep the energy flowing.
But for real the trials and tribulations of a group with miscommunications and ideas not lining up but we pushed through and our brotherhood got stronger for it.
If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be and why?
Hiright: Samara Cyn cause she got some real talent and a unique style that would compliment what Barbaydose does.
Bsidez: ITZY cause I love K-Pop
Barbaydose: Doechi cause she’s fire!!
Where do you see your music taking you in the next year?
Lots of stages worldwide. New online platforms and merchandise and new collaborations with established artists. Get to Islands whose names we haven’t pronounced yet
What’s the next big step for you as an artist?
Releasing the vault of music that we have and creating ways for our fans old and new to experience our world.
