What’s your stage name and where are you from?

Elijah Rich & Rochester NY

What’s the story behind your stage name?

My government name is Elijah Richards. I wanted to shorten it to make it easier to remember, but wanted to stay authentic to myself.

Describe your musical journey in three sentences.

I’ve been making music and playing instruments since I could walk. My debut record “Ten Thousand Hours” coming Feb 21st , is the culmination of all the time I’ve spent creating since then.

Share an interesting experience you had while creating your latest track.

It’s not a specific experience but I think it’s wild how you can make something one day, and come back to it the next and it’s whack af. The best ear is a fresh ear especially when producing and mixing.

What message do you want to convey through your music?

To be true to who you are. Simple as that. I mean every word of every sentence of every song. No exaggerations or any cap raps, just speaking about my life. It’s wild what you can do when you stay authentic to yourself.

Tell us about a challenge you faced during production and how you overcame it.

The main challenge with “Ten Thousand Hours” was fighting against the clock. I produced the entire record using live instruments & it ended up taking twice as long as I first thought it would. I’m not mad at all tho. I didn’t want to sacrifice anything or rush the process. It just meant I had to really lock in.

If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be and why?

I would love to collaborate with Larry June or the Alchemist. I love Larry Junes laid back approach & realness. And Alchemist is one of the greatest producers of all time I would love to speak on one of his productions.

Where do you see your music taking you in the next year?

I’ll be doing a few shows coming up real soon, and making more music. One of the parts I’m most hype about releasing “Ten Thousand Hours” is that now I can move on to making more records that don’t necessarily have to fit in that same box.

What’s the next big step for you as an artist?

Not gonna lie this year I’m really trying to focus on streaming & getting more music released. I’ve opened for some bigger named artists in the past (Rae Sremmurd, Dizzy Wright, Riff Raff) and am really looking to lock in on some dope events this year as well.
