What’s your stage name and where are you from?
dizza jedi from Houston, TX
What’s the story behind your stage name?
Back when I was a teenager posting freestyles and songs online, I’d come up with random usernames, and one of them was ‘dizza jedi.’ When I started making music again as an adult, I thought about changing it, but it still felt right. It just made sense to keep it and connect my present to my past.
Describe your musical journey in three sentences.
I started making music as a teenager during the Blog Era, dropping freestyles and songs on different sites and performing at open mics around Houston. As life got busier, I focused more on school, work, and everything you’re “supposed” to do, but in the process, I lost my creative outlets. Over the past few years, I’ve gotten back into making music, and it’s been a game-changer—I’m not planning on stopping again.
Share an interesting experience you had while creating your latest track.
I didn’t have a big budget for recording and didn’t have a space to set up a home studio, so I worked with what I had. I ended up recording an entire project at my local library, using a shared community studio on the weekends. It turned out to be a great experience—I met some really dope local artists and got to create in a space I never would’ve expected.
What message do you want to convey through your music?
I want my music to feel like connection—something that brings people in, makes them feel seen, and encourages them to tell their own stories. I want it to be honest, expressive, and fun. I make the kind of music I want to hear, and if other people connect with it too, that’s even better!
Tell us about a challenge you faced during production and how you overcame it.
For a long time, I mixed all my own music, but when I was ready to start releasing on DSPs, I had to admit that my mixing wasn’t where I wanted it to be. I didn’t have the resources to level up on my own, so I reached out online and connected with an engineer who helped bring my sound to that professional level. That whole process reinforced how important community is in this journey—he’s mixed everything I’ve released since, and we’ve built a solid working relationship.
If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be and why?
Too many to name! There are so many talented artists in rap right now, and I’d love to connect with the people I’ve met along the way. I’m excited to see who I get to work with in the future.
Where do you see your music taking you in the next year?
I see it continuing to push me creatively—helping me grow as an artist, explore new ways to tell my story, and make music I’m proud of.
What’s the next big step for you as an artist?
I want to focus on developing my songwriting. Like a lot of rappers, I get caught up in the technical side of the verses, but I want to get better at crafting songs that feel both personal and captivating.
