What’s your stage name and where are you from?
Gen. Stasia, NY Native now in NC.
What’s the story behind your stage name?
I summed it up with a line I wrote when I was 15: “G E N General slash Genius / too smart to be a Follower my Pre K Teacher Seen this.” It’s also short for Generous, Genuine, Generational, and Stasia is my family name.
Describe your musical journey in three sentences.
Independent in thought, hustle, and spirit while being a team member in practice, and music being my guiding star.
Share an interesting experience you had while creating your latest track.
I worked with a music video producer I met at church and his brother in LA who produced the beat. It felt cosmic, especially with the song having such an ethereal sound. ‘Special’ feels like it’s connected to something greater than my own skill.
What message do you want to convey through your music?
My brand statement is “Soundtrack Music For The Divine Timeline of Your Life.” So, my message is everything that goes with that: I want my music to remind listeners that we are all connected and that we all have work to do while we are here on Earth. The mission is truly bigger than us.
Tell us about a challenge you faced during production and how you overcame it.
While recording ‘Special’, I had just experienced a breakthrough in the journey to discover my confidence and gifts again. So the challenge was me fighting the urge to shrink my message down to only talk about what the eye can see. I overcame it by doubling down on my message.
If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be and why?
Beyoncé. Period. She does everything for her people.
Where do you see your music taking you in the next year?
In the next year, I want to be performing more, as well as releasing music to build a bigger audience. I’m using my time right now to fine-tune the messaging and build systems of support in my marketing efforts. At the same time, I’m working to keep a pipeline of consistent releases.
What’s the next big step for you as an artist?
I am currently using my release schedule to build out a bigger narrative structure for an upcoming project, so the biggest step is just to stay in my routine.
We occasionally feature artists on our Bird of Paradise Podcast for in-depth discussions. Would this be something you’re interested in exploring?
Yes, that would be great!
Are there any other promotional opportunities you’re looking for to boost your visibility?
I’m just here to meet some of the right people and make some music history!
