What’s your stage name and where are you from?

Gravos Supreme

What’s the story behind your stage name?

Its a long story, but it comes from a nickname a mate gave me when I was a kid. We would wag school and get fish and chips and KFC gravy and go eat them down the creek.
One time another friend came and we ended up in an argument wich turned in to a gravy fight. For some reason I earned the Nickname Gravy. Then later when we were Teens and messing about taping ourselves rapping and singing ect, one of my friend did a couple of verses about me. “The Gravy from KFC is back, ready to launch a full scale attack….” at wich point you hear the other guy i had the fight with scream/sing “GRAVOS SUPREME MAKER!”. Wich i think he took from a gravy advertisement (Gravox Supreme Maker).
So when i started actually making more serious recordings, one of the first practice tracks i did was a rendition of “The Gravy from KFC” and I used that name and have ever since.

Describe your musical journey in three sentences.

Always experimented and messed about with friends. Did an old school sound engineering course when i was a lot younger but never really used it, just kept living life trying to get ahead. One of my girlfriends was a singer trying to do her own thing. Since im a bit of a tech lover, i helped her get setup and decided to do my own stuff as well.

Share an interesting experience you had while creating your latest track.

My workmate normally hates my music, but during the day at work, i will often have tracks im working on going on repeat so i when i get home i already know what im about to do. When I was messing about with the Sax on this track, i caught him out bopping along to it. He denied it, but when I caught him out again later he had to admit he though the sax was “pretty funky”. So i took that as a good sign.

What message do you want to convey through your music?

I dont have a message so to speak. I pretty much make songs about whats going on in life. Lately that has been things to do with the economy and the start of the world, but mostly i just do it for fun. Not trying to make money or become famous. Not sticking to a particular style but i do feel more drawn towards the 90s style hip hop.

Tell us about a challenge you faced during production and how you overcame it.

Mastering. I have a decent system, but i changed technique, i was trying to apply a similar EQ to what I use on the output, only on the input. Despite sounding fine, the graph kept showing me it was clipping and required too much compression to fix.
In the end I dropped the idea and just tested the output on 3 different systems before finalizing it.

If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be and why?

Nobody.

Where do you see your music taking you in the next year?

Nowhere.

What’s the next big step for you as an artist?

Nothing, i will just keep making tracks for fun.
