What’s your stage name and where are you from?
My stage name is Juma Vybz, half Irish, half Ghanaian, living in Northern Ireland.
What’s the story behind your stage name?
Juma is an old family name which also means “Friday” in another culture. Vybz is simply vibes, just spelled differently. Juma Vybz is Friday vibes, simply meaning good feelings.
Describe your musical journey in three sentences.
A rollercoaster of highs and lows. Enlightenment like none other. Reflective progression live.
Share an interesting experience you had while creating your latest track.
This is my first track to release in quite a while. The overall experience of creating this song allowed me to see myself as I am, which I think I lost along the way at some point. We can say I experienced an ego death with honor and humility, hence the outro speech.
What message do you want to convey through your music?
Give yourself no option if you want to proceed in life how you envision it. No matter what we go through as humans, sometimes we get lost in the processes of situations and fixate on setbacks. Understand and learn from your experiences. Once we do that, there is no option left but to proceed forward and upward.
Tell us about a challenge you faced during production and how you overcame it.
Life is a challenge, wake up and go again.
If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be and why?
There are too many to list. I have such a versatile catalog. One day it might be Kendrick Lamar, the next day Burna Boy, or maybe J.Cole or NSG. Hopefully, at some stage, all of them.
Where do you see your music taking you in the next year?
Full-time living from a humble perspective. Making music is my absolute passion, so if I can make a living off it and quit my 7-7 day job, I’m happy. The ultimate goal is to be able to look after my loved ones doing what I love.
What’s the next big step for you as an artist?
Continue to have fun doing what I love while inspiring others through the art I put out.
We occasionally feature artists on our Bird of Paradise Podcast for in-depth discussions. Would this be something you’re interested in exploring?
Most definitely.
Are there any other promotional opportunities you’re looking for to boost your visibility?
Spotify playlisting mainly, but anything to boost the reach to the world of music lovers.
