What’s your stage name and where are you from?
My name is Kameron Desmond. I was born in Toronto, Canada, and raised in Queens, NY. My ancestors are from a small Caribbean Island called Grenada, colonized by the French and later the British.

What’s the story behind your stage name?
My stage name is literally my first and middle name. My middle name is my Dad’s name. It’s genuinely me, no alter egos. I felt it should be like this in the interest of transparency, pushing me to always be the best version of myself because I can’t run from who I am, so I better have a name I believe in and stand on as a brand as well.

Describe your musical journey in three sentences.
My musical journey started in Toronto’s complex music scene. I began producing beats just for the art, and later met a close friend of mine on Indeed who was looking for an engineer. I had no business applying, but I wanted to get into a studio at all costs, so I shot my shot.

Share an interesting experience you had while creating your latest track.
An interesting experience while creating my last track was exporting the file thinking it was finished, only to reference it in my friend’s car and realize that the timing of my verses was completely off. This stressed the importance of taking breaks and letting the ears rest. I mix and master all the music myself, so it’s key.

What message do you want to convey through your music?
I want to convey the power of spiritual and mental endurance. People will disappoint you and let you down, but GOD (Jesus) won’t. My music represents my values and the grace necessary to handle challenges that come up in the field. I hope people can take bits of knowledge and wisdom from my life experiences and apply them for themselves. I’m giving free game.

Tell us about a challenge you faced during production and how you overcame it.
One of the most consistent challenges I faced during production was my vocal performance. When I began rapping, I realized how many elements truly go into it for a sound that translates to the speakers. It caused me to work diligently on perfecting elements like tone, delivery, and point of emphasis. I have a lot of respect for this craft, and I’ve been humbled by my own process.

If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be and why?
I would choose an amazing Baptist Church choir somewhere in the southern United States. I feel like I could create very powerful pieces with them. It’s definitely on my checklist to produce a dramatic and theatrical Gospel-influenced album.

Where do you see your music taking you in the next year?
Over the next year, I’d like to establish some ground and name for myself in the industry. Hopefully, I’ll gain the respect of peers and my fans alike. God willing, I’ll be opening for a prominent tour or working with some better-known artists.

What’s the next big step for you as an artist?
The next big step as an artist is getting signed and reaching my fan base. I want to connect with the people on this journey with me and spread the love. Ultimately, this is for the fans of our genre, and I really want to find the people who connect with and resonate with my message.

We occasionally feature artists on our Bird of Paradise Podcast for in-depth discussions. Would this be something you’re interested in exploring?
Absolutely. I’m grateful for any opportunity to connect.

Are there any other promotional opportunities you’re looking for to boost your visibility?
My marketing focus is definitely to make an impact with the blog community. I think that the more people know about my music and my journey, the more likely I am to have true fans that support me as a person and artist. Blogs have always had a major impact in hip-hop.

Where can we hear/watch your most recent work?
Right now, I’m starting out, so SoundCloud is the best place to look out for new releases. I want to see what the people take to and build off of that.

What is the best way to contact you if fans want to give feedback or if other artists/producers want to collaborate?
My Instagram is @kameron.desmond, and I’m always open to feedback and collab opportunities.
