What’s your stage name and where are you from?
My stage name is King Tru, and I’m from Tawas City, MI.
What’s the story behind your stage name?
Well, my last name is King, and in my music, I try to either rap about things I’ve seen and experienced or in story format. So I like to keep it as true and real as possible.
Describe your musical journey in three sentences.
Long and therapeutic. I’ve moved from Michigan to Georgia and Virginia, using the experiences and culture of each place. Music is therapy and an outlet for life.
Share an interesting experience you had while creating your latest track.
The latest track would be from my new EP, Legendary, which is out now… shameless plug. The honor and challenge of working with such iconic artists has made me work harder to show I belong in the same realm.
What message do you want to convey through your music?
Music is love, anger, sadness—it’s all emotions that help someone relate, release, or just vibe out.
Tell us about a challenge you faced during production and how you overcame it.
Getting the features is a challenge, but even more so is trying to mix and master my vocals to the pre-mixed vocals of each artist. I don’t think people understand the time and effort it takes to get everything to the levels it needs.
If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be and why?
For me, it would be Eminem. In my opinion, he is the GOAT. To work with someone I’ve long admired, who is as talented and successful as he is, would be a dream come true.
Where do you see your music taking you in the next year?
I see a new album with both features and solo tracks; it will be the most personal music I’ve ever made.
What’s the next big step for you as an artist?
I’ve charted on Billboard and iTunes before, so for me, it’s just about doing what I love and hopefully touching someone out there… that’s enough for me.
We occasionally feature artists on our Bird of Paradise Podcast for in-depth discussions. Would this be something you’re interested in exploring?
Absolutely.
Are there any other promotional opportunities you’re looking for to boost your visibility?
I look to take advantage of every opportunity that comes my way.
Where can we hear/watch your most recent work?
All major platforms.
What is the best way to contact you if fans want to give feedback or if other artists/producers want to collaborate?
