Artist Spotlight: MIA Jai Rian from Las Vegas

28

What’s your stage name and where are you from?

My stage name is MIA Jai Rian, and I am from Las Vegas, born and raised.

What’s the story behind your stage name?

Jai Rian comes from my birth name, Joshua Ryan. I changed the spelling to identify my commitment to serving God with my talents and gifts. Jai means “Victory to God” or “Triumph,” and Rian means “King.” The MIA in the front is an acronym with a plural meaning: “Missing in Action” from the world and “Musically Inclined Artist” ordained by God.

Describe your musical journey in three sentences.

My musical journey has been fulfilling, knowing I am doing what I can to glorify God. It has been challenging to say the least; there is a lot that goes into creating and marketing music that listeners don’t know about. Despite the challenges, it has been a rewarding path.

Share an interesting experience you had while creating your latest track.

I wouldn’t say I really had an interesting experience, but this song did take me down memory lane and gave me a chance to share some of my testimony. I love how music can take you back to a time in your life and unveil the raw emotion you once felt.

What message do you want to convey through your music?

My message is the message of Christ. We are not condemned, nor are we bound in chains. My music is mostly a cry for help to God concerning inner battles and unworthiness. I love to share my testimonies through song to encourage others to turn to God in their darkest hour.

Tell us about a challenge you faced during production and how you overcame it.

I would have to say finding a mixing engineer was my hardest struggle. I needed someone who could capture my vision in the mix. Luckily and favorably, through God’s grace, I found Luis Cancion through a mutual friend. Needless to say, he delivered.

If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be and why?

I would have to say NF because I can relate to a lot of his music. It’s a little more dark and personal, which I enjoy. My life has been full of hardships, so it is easy for me to relate to songs that disclose pain and struggle. Walking with God is not easy, and I think most of us need to be real about our hardships to encourage others.

Where do you see your music taking you in the next year?

Honestly, I do not know. I am just doing what I love to do and don’t put much expectation on it. I am willing and ready to go wherever God leads me.

What’s the next big step for you as an artist?

My next big step would be joining a Christian label or going on tour once the fanbase is there. I’d like to get more involved with speaking and performing at churches and making a spiritual impact on others.
