What’s your stage name and where are you from?
My name is Mic Orion, and I’m from Scotland.

What’s the story behind your stage name?
My first and middle names are Michael Ryan, and Mic Orion is a play on words, as it sounds similar with a Scottish accent.

Describe your musical journey in three sentences.
I started writing my own lyrics as a teenager and quickly became obsessed with rap and music in general. Around 2010, I got involved in the Scottish music scene and started building a name for myself. Now, I’m aiming to reach a broader, international audience.

Share an interesting experience you had while creating your latest track.
Some artists I rate highly have told me they were inspired by my music after hearing my latest track. It’s unexpected moments like that which motivate me to keep going.

What message do you want to convey through your music?
I want people to understand that it’s okay to be vulnerable and embrace being different.

Tell us about a challenge you faced during production and how you overcame it.
I’m a perfectionist when it comes to making music, but I’ve had to learn to stop overthinking every detail and focus on releasing my work, rather than holding onto unreleased tracks for years.

If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be and why?
Lupe Fiasco. He is versatile, and I believe he’s one of, if not the best lyricist hip hop has ever seen.

Where do you see your music taking you in the next year?
Playing at festivals.

What’s the next big step for you as an artist?
Following the release of my debut album, In a World of My Own, I’m aiming to create a full project with E-Yin.

Are there any other promotional opportunities you’re looking for to boost your visibility?
I’m open to learning about more.

Where can we hear/watch your most recent work?
My latest single, Keep My Head Down, is available on Spotify.
