What’s your stage name and where are you from?
Mirazh iLLah and I’m from up north in Montreal Canada. Currently based in Toronto.
What’s the story behind your stage name?
Well… when I was younger, me and friends used to watch and worship “The Transformers” and “Mirage” was one of my favourites, I just switched up the spelling. I added the iLLAH part later as I grew up and gained more knowledge of self.
Describe your musical journey in three sentences.
I started with a dream, a few dollars and a notebook. Been through trials, tribulations, cyphers, and studio nights until I made a name for myself. Now I put my life story in these songs to connect with the people and move crowds with my vibrations.
Share an interesting experience you had while creating your latest track.
It’s funny you ask. While recording the song “Knock, Knock!” me and my engineer had ordered some pizza from a local spot and the music was playing so loud that we didn’t even hear the doorbell when he arrived or him even knocking on the door. When we had realized and went to check, he was out there rapping along to the chorus and was excited like he was part of the whole process lol. Of course the pizza was cold so he actually went back, got a fresh pizza and gave it to us for free!
What message do you want to convey through your music?
I’d like my music to tell real stories, inspire hustle, connect and make people feel something deep. Whether it’s pain, ambition or pure energy. But overall, I want the listener to feel something.
Tell us about a challenge you faced during production and how you overcame it.
After spending a few hours recording one of my favourite songs off this new project, we unfortunately lost the session due to a corrupted file. We managed to stay calm and start over the track over pretty much from scratch and it came out even better that the first version.
If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be and why?
Oh, that’s a tough one because there is so many great artists I enjoy listening to and admire. But right now…off the top, I’d love to work Mary J. Blige because she’s a legend in the game and her distinct voice could bring some real soulful energy to some of my songs/music.
Where do you see your music taking you in the next year?
I see the music taking me overseas, different countries, on tour, in studios with more legends, in the places I need to be as an artist.
What’s the next big step for you as an artist?
My next big step is releasing more projects in a calendar year and doing more collaborations overall. Most if not all of the projects I’ve released was just me and the music. I plan to drop more music with top-tier production, and do much more live performances. I plan to continue building a loyal fanbase organically as well as through strategic marketing, and by storytelling that connects on a deeper level.
