What’s your stage name and where are you from?
My stage name is PTtheGospelSpitter.
What’s the story behind your stage name?
I wanted the name to stand out and be impactful for the Kingdom. I’m all about sharing the “Good News,” so Gospel had to be in the artist name somewhere. PT comes from my athletic days of running a sub 4.4 40-yard dash in football. PT stood for Prime Time (think Deion Sanders). For the last portion of my name, it resonates with early Hip-hop. Some would call a young rapper/lyricist back in the day a “young spitter,” meaning spitting rhymes. Put it all together, and you have PTtheGospelSpitter!
Describe your musical journey in three sentences.
My musical journey has been unique, trying, taxing, and also very life-fulfilling.
Share an interesting experience you had while creating your latest track.
I made “Save Your Soul” some years ago, and it sounded WAY different. I came across the previous recording and began harmonizing to it, coming up with this new feeling for the record. I got up with my engineer/producer, Prodi Reign, in the studio, and we went to work. While finishing up the ad-libs and highlights for the song, I had an idea of doing a falsetto octave underneath the last verse. Prodi didn’t think it would flow sonically, but I asked him to indulge me on the idea. When it worked, his reply (with my management present) was, “YOU THINK YOU’RE SMARTER THAN ME!” Yes, he yelled it, and yes, I IMMEDIATELY broke out into laughter. We also have a video of the whole ordeal, and we used some of the visuals from that work exchange in our upcoming Lyrical Video for “Save Your Soul” (premiering Jan. 20th, 2025, on YouTube).
What message do you want to convey through your music?
That YHWH (GOD) loves you, wants to have a relationship with you, and wants to SAVE YOUR SOUL!
Tell us about a challenge you faced during production and how you overcame it.
When I originally recorded the song, it was only so-so in my mind artistically, so I put it down for 3-4 years. I came back to it after the success of all the versions of our last release, “Kingdom.” Since I was in a singing mood, it caused me to sing and harmonize differently on “Save Your Soul” now. This new version definitely overcame my challenges.
If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be and why?
That’s a good question. I would have to say my mom. We never had the opportunity to collaborate on a Gospel song before her transitioning. She is the reason I have the joy of the Lord YHWH in my heart and a song right there as well.
Where do you see your music taking you in the next year?
I see my music in the next year taking me on a tour/visit to Africa. The first number one record I received on iTunes was in South Africa for “S.f.T.K.”
What’s the next big step for you as an artist?
The next big step is to make sure I take time to rest. I’m always on to the next song or project and immerse myself in it.
