Artist Spotlight: Reda Rick from Moscow, Russia

15

What’s your stage name and where are you from?
Rhetoric = Reda Rick, and I’m from Moscow, Russia.

What’s the story behind your stage name?
Originally, my pseudonym was just Frederick. “Reda” came from playing with the word and recognizing the skate video game “Skate 1-2,” where the cameraman was named Reda. “Rick” is from Frederick, and together they form “Reda Rick,” which means “rhetoric”—the art of conversation and open-ended dialogue.

Describe your musical journey in three sentences.
I used to freestyle on type beats with friends. I borrowed a Snowball mic from a good friend and started learning. I’m on track to building my home studio by next year.

Share an interesting experience you had while creating your latest track.
I was working with a producer, and it was the first time I had back-and-forth changes with him. My friend Willy KB suggested the beat, and although he didn’t feature on the track, I still consider it his beat.

What message do you want to convey through your music?
We have one life, so do your best, but don’t take things too seriously. I like to paint pictures and comparisons to elevate this philosophy so everyone has more fun instead of wasting time on negativity.

Tell us about a challenge you faced during production and how you overcame it.
EQ was a huge struggle for me, but with practice, I’ve improved exponentially. My early tracks were rough, but now it’s night and day.

If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be and why?
I’m open to anyone, though I feel like I might not fit in the punk/grunge/metal scene. However, I’d be happy to be proven wrong. I’d love to collaborate with fan favorites.

Where do you see your music taking you in the next year?
I hope to work with more people on each track and build creative collaborations.

What’s the next big step for you as an artist?
To grow my following to a scalable level, with a few thousand real listeners and a few hundred engaging.

We occasionally feature artists on our Bird of Paradise Podcast for in-depth discussions. Would this be something you’re interested in exploring?
Yes, I’d love to share my perspective as a new artist and an everyday person.

Are there any other promotional opportunities you’re looking for to boost your visibility?
I’m looking, but it’s tough because independent artists often need their own money or following to get booked. I’ll get there in 2–3 years after building my home studio.

Where can we hear/watch your most recent work?
You can find me on SoundCloud as Reda Rick—my track “Flow Smoothie” should be the only result.

What is the best way to contact you if fans want to give feedback or if other artists/producers want to collaborate?
