What’s your stage name and where are you from?

The Revenir, from Cape Town, South Africa

What’s the story behind your stage name?

“Revenir” which means to return, or to come back, is the French root word of “Revenant”, which means a person who has returned, especially supposedly from the dead. When I gave my life to God, He gave me a new life and turned me into a new being. Life without Jesus is death. And so, when I decided to give Him my life, I quite literally came back from the dead. I turned away from my old ways and living for myself, to a new way of (real) life and living for Him. He has saved me from so much – and that void that we all seek to fill, but somehow, it never feels like anything (or anyone) really can… He is the only one that can do that, and He did it for me. Hence, “The Revenir” or when translated, “The Return” or “The Come Back”.

Describe your musical journey in three sentences.

I had a deep rooted passion for music from a young age – throughout the years, I’ve played piano, guitar, drums – but in my final exam as I was completing High School, I found myself trying to finish the test as soon as possible, so I can flip the paper and write lyrics with the time I had left.

After High School, I failed my first year in college, due to my headspace being more focused on having a good time, which landed me about 5 years of manual labor and trying to find a way to something better.

Finally, after clawing my way into the software space and building a strong career, I got a place where I had the resources to consider recording, and I did – but that was while I was still living for the world. In 2023, everything changed, and I gave my life back to God, so I started from scratch with recording a new song, for Him (FOR THE KING) .

I truly believe that He has placed this passion in me, and given me the ability and resources to execute on it, for the benefit of His Kingdom. This track is my debut to a long-awaited dream of producing music, and reaching the world with a message of hope. We all struglle internally every single day, we all have our demons that we fight. My message is one of encouragement and victory through faith. I used to live for myself, and there just seemed to always be something missing, and things just don’t seem to work out. Finally, I found my way back to God, and He started moving like never before – my whole life changed! I’m here to be the difference, and to be a light in a dark and broken world.

Share an interesting experience you had while creating your latest track.

God works in mysterious ways – At the time of recording “FOR THE KING”, I’ve been single for a long time. In 2023, I met a new friend through church, who is a singer. And as our friendship grew and she learned that I’m a rapper and busy recording a song, she mentioned that if I ever needed someone to do a chorus or anything, I should let her know. And so, I did! We started spending some time to go through the song and what my vision was as she practiced. She ended up doing the vocals for the chorus, and not too long after, we started hanging out as friends (we used to only hang out as a group). Next thing you know, God opened our eyes and we realized that we are both each others’ answered prayer for a Godly partner. In March 2024, we dated for two weeks before she became my girlfriend. We were together for three months before we got engaged. Engaged for two months before we got married. Been married now for just over 6 months!

What message do you want to convey through your music?

While rooted in Christianity, my music is far from one-dimensional, as I shares stories of triumph over adversity, the pursuit of identity, and the struggles many face in moments of doubt and despair. With songs like “FOR THE KING” my goal is to connect with those who feel lost, rejected, or burdened, offering hope, encouragement, and a path to finding true love and purpose through faith in God.

I represent faith and Hip-Hop with an unapologetic edge, while also challenging the Church to fulfill its potential while inspiring the world to reconcile with its Savior. My mission is to reach hearts, uplift spirits, and leave a lasting impact through music that transcends boundaries and speaks to everyone.

I invite listeners on a journey of discovery, reflection, and transformation—an experience that is as thought-provoking as it is inspiring.

Tell us about a challenge you faced during production and how you overcame it.

Personally, I’m someone who likes to strive for perfection in everything that I do. In general, any artist that takes what they do seriously, would tell you that art is never done, because you can go through infinite iterations of changes and “improvements” and back and forth in the pursuit of perfection. Honestly, I don’t believe that a true artist is ever truly satisfied with anything they put out. if you ask them, they will always tell you that it could have been better, or what they think they might do differently going forward.

“FOR THE KING” was actually “done” early in 2024, but I still had changes I wanted to make evrytime my producer sent me the “revised-revised” track. Eventually, I ended up postponing publishing the song for months in this never ending pursuit of perfection. Later in the year, I realized that, if I kept this up, I will never actually release the song – and at that point, I started to appreciate the song for what it was and became comfortable with the idea of putting it out there without any further changes. As I embraced the humility of accepting imperfection, the excitement started to build and the confidence too. I became confident in the fact that, even though it isn’t “perfect”, it’s perfect.

If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be and why?

It would have to be FLAME – I have a deep appreciation for his unapologetical edge, and the way that he roots 99% of evry lyric he raps about in the Word of God. He doesn’t glorify himself in any shape or form, and aspires to use the platform he has been given to teach others about God, His Word, and faith. Truly inspiring what he has been able to do – all of course, by the grace of God.

Where do you see your music taking you in the next year?

Wherever God wants me to be. I don’t see my music as my own, nor do I see it as my ticket to fame and riches. My greatest desire is to be used by God for the benefit of his Kingdom – to reach the ears of every human/nation/country that needs to know that there is hope and that God loves them. However He chooses to do that, i’m ready to go. Even if my music makes a real impact on one person’s life, and brings them closer to God, I would be overjoyed!!

What’s the next big step for you as an artist?

To keep going – it’s been a long time coming, and I’ve only just released my first single. I have the rest of the album ready to rumble, I just need to get recording (more on that soon). I want to use 2025 to release the rest of my album and establish myself as an impactful artist, all the way from Cape Town!
