Trapbang!: From Basements to Music Videos
Alexander Davis: Today, we dive headfirst into the world of music with Trapbang! Hailing from Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada, Trapbang! brings a unique blend of grit and energy to the hip-hop scene. It’s a pleasure to have you here, Trapbang!. Can you share the story behind your artist name?
Trapbang!: Thanks for having me, Alexander. The genesis of my name, Trapbang!, traces back to my gaming days in middle school. As a quick-scoping aficionado on Call of Duty, my gamertag was “Flashbang.” When I ventured into the realm of music, I wanted a moniker that paid homage to my gaming roots while embodying the raw intensity of my sound. Thus, Trapbang! was born – a fusion of gaming nostalgia and musical prowess.
AD: Your journey from basement demos to collaborating on mixtapes and debut albums is truly inspiring. How has this evolution shaped your artistic vision and approach to music?
Trapbang!: It’s been a transformative journey, to say the least. Starting out in my basement, grappling with cheap equipment and incomplete demos, was a trial by fire. However, collaborating with a close friend who offered access to a professional studio breathed new life into my music. Together, we crafted a mixtape and embarked on the creation of my debut album, “Live From the Opium Den.” Each step of this journey has fueled my artistic evolution, pushing me to strive for excellence and authenticity in every track.
AD: Your commitment to authenticity shines through in your music. Can you elaborate on the messages and values you aim to convey through your art?
Trapbang!: For me, music is more than just a means of self-expression; it’s a platform to reflect the ever-evolving landscape of my personal journey. I strive to infuse my music with messages and values that resonate with my own growth and experiences. Whether it’s navigating the complexities of life or championing resilience in the face of adversity, I aim to craft sonic narratives that mirror the nuances of the human experience.
AD: Your dedication to perfection is evident, especially in the meticulous crafting of your tracks. Could you share a bit about your creative process, particularly in refining your music like the track “Poison”?
Trapbang!: Absolutely. “Poison” was a labor of love, fraught with challenges and triumphs. We recorded the track three times over the span of two years, each iteration a testament to our relentless pursuit of perfection. From raspy vocals to microphone upgrades, every detail was scrutinized and refined to ensure the final product met our vision. It’s a testament to the unwavering dedication and collaboration that underpins my creative process.
AD: Looking ahead, what are your aspirations for the future of your music career, especially with the imminent release of your music video and debut album?
Trapbang!: The future is brimming with excitement and anticipation. Kicking off 2024 in Calgary, filming the music video for my upcoming single, “Mirror,” was a thrilling experience. With the impending release of this video and my debut album, “Live From the Opium Den,” I’m hopeful that these projects will garner attention and propel my music career to new heights. My focus remains on reaching wider audiences and cementing my presence in the hip-hop landscape.
