In the modern music business, it seems like there’s an overwhelming amount of people with manufactured voices. There are too many people with manufactured voices in the modern music business. The major label restraints are more about algorithms than artistry, and independent artists are left for the most part competing for air in a noxious atmosphere. “Dinner At Dorsia” cuts through all that noise. The album is a defiant reminder of the status symbol from “American Psycho”, which was untouchable, and this album is a refusal to conform to cookie-cutter status symbols. LoDeck and The Golden Godz are not about to get bogged down in the corporate game, they’re going to construct their very own table completely.
This project is a very honest attempt at a look at what it takes to survive outside the machine. It’s an extremely hard life out on your own. Sometimes you need to get your blood in the microphone when the mainstream won’t look at you. Sol626 again dragged LoDeck back into the studio to employ that exact frustration to craft a futuristic beat selection, grounded in the old-fashioned principles. They’re not looking to go viral. In a disposable content world they are creating a lasting monument.
The struggle against isolation of the underground is a weapon of collaboration. With the arrival of titans such as Smoothe Da Hustler, Bigg Jus and JAKPROGRESSO, it’s a united unbreakable front. So DJ Obi’s mix at his home base in Los Angeles brings everything from Riverside together seamlessly with the Las Vegas vocals and it’s unstoppable momentum. It is NOT a compilation of tracks. A clinic on the strength of going the extra mile in forgotten places.
For freedom in art, there is so much discipline in it, to not give up in it. LoDeck has told the world that it has chosen to go the extra mile in a way that diverges from the mainstream of major labels, and it’s winning. The underground still influences the pulse of the culture as illustrated in “Dinner At Dorsia”. If they put up a barrier, you keep on pushing, you keep on recording, and you keep on making sure that the real one lasts longer than the plastic one.
