What’s your stage name and where are you from?
Chrisisick (pronounced Chris is sick).
What’s the story behind your stage name?
It’s a combination of my first and middle name, Chris and Isaac. I wanted my name to be clever but still authentic to who I am, and this was the best of both.
Describe your musical journey in three sentences.
I fell in love with hip-hop before creating it because it was my parent during traumatic times when I had no one and nothing else to turn to. I realized I was good at it after a friend asked me to check his verse, and it triggered a lightbulb moment that inspired me to write my own. Now, I’ve grown through the years and have life lessons to offer to those falling in love with music today.
Share an interesting experience you had while creating your latest track.
I wrote the track before starting therapy, and the deeper I got into my sessions, the more I realized I had been my own worst enemy in ways I didn’t even recognize. It’s ironic considering the title of the track.
What message do you want to convey through your music?
I want to show others how I innovated my approach to success by being myself and using all my personality traits and interests to create something unique. I want them to be inspired to do the same.
Tell us about a challenge you faced during production and how you overcame it.
We had a video shoot where we were supposed to have a boat rental for a drone shot. The boat rentals were off that day, and one of our team members forgot the mirror. We improvised, which taught us a lot about how creative limitations can push us.
If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be and why?
Kendrick Lamar or Lupe Fiasco. I’ve seen them perform, and they’re my favorite artists. On an MC level, it would be incredible to compete with my idols.
Where do you see your music taking you in the next year?
I hope to set a foundation for my fan base, refine my brand, and start collaborating with other brands and artists.
What’s the next big step for you as an artist?
The next step is completing the marketing plan for my EP “Devil in Disguise,” learning from what’s worked, and continuing to release new music with bigger content ideas.
We occasionally feature artists on our Bird of Paradise Podcast for in-depth discussions. Would this be something you’re interested in exploring?
Absolutely.
Are there any other promotional opportunities you’re looking for to boost your visibility?
I’m looking to work with other artists and begin opening for them to boost visibility.
Where can we hear/watch your most recent work?
I’m everywhere, but you can find me most easily on Instagram and Spotify. You can find all my platforms via linktr.ee/chrisisick.
What is the best way to contact you if fans want to give feedback or if other artists/producers want to collaborate?
My website is the best resource for contact: chrisisick.com/contact
