What’s your stage name and where are you from?
My Artist name is Jays Ambition and I’m from London, UK
What’s the story behind your stage name?
I chose Jays Ambition because my name is Jay and I have an Ambition to connect with people through my music on a deep and conscious level. It’s also a statement to believe in yourself even if you’re just an average Joe with a dream. Be ambitious in life!
Describe your musical journey in three sentences.
My musical journey so far has been full of twists and turns but the thousands of hours worth of production work, dedication and belief is starting to pay off.
Share an interesting experience you had while creating your latest track.
Sampling steel drums are a game changer
What message do you want to convey through your music?
The message I want to convey is to never let your struggles define you! We all have the power to convert physical, emotional and mental pain into motivational fuel. To stay woke and be true to yourself, being you is what makes you unique! #InspirationalPain
Tell us about a challenge you faced during production and how you overcame it.
I started recording myself from my bedroom around 6 years ago after purchasing recording equipment with zero knowledge on how to record.
Starting on protools I watched countless hours of tutorials videos from people like ‘Wavy Wayne’ which put me on track however, my sound still wasn’t what I wanted it to be.
So I decided to study music production properly at university and after two years there, I have come leaps and bounds in producing and engineering my own music!
If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be and why?
Joyner Lucas! I love how deep and conscious his music is. There is always a powerful moral behind his message and I think me and him could create a powerful storytelling project.
Where do you see your music taking you in the next year?
I see myself on stage performing regularly, graduating from my music production studies and being well and truly established within the industry either as a composer/performer or a studio producer/ engineer. Either way jays ambition will remain an active artist for years to come.
What’s the next big step for you as an artist?
This Friday I have a big meeting with a well known producer in the UK. He heard me when my single ‘Rejection’ was aired on BBC Radio last week and reached out. I can’t speak on the details any further but this is a massive step for me as an artist and will help me get to the next level of my career.
