What’s your stage name and where are you from?
My name is Tony Saint, and I’m from San Diego, California. I also spent 7 years of my childhood running around in Las Vegas.
What’s the story behind your stage name?
My real name is Anthony, but I’ve always liked the nickname “Tony.” It’s shorter, and it just matches more with my personality and musical upbringing. The “Saint” part of my name is based on the religious family I grew up in, and it symbolizes the irony of trying so hard to be a better person, yet always having deep scars and flaws that may never be fixed. I was drawn to the irony of it.
Describe your musical journey in three sentences.
My musical journey has been one of fear, anxiety, and challenge, but also of courage, trust, and perseverance. Before I learned to navigate socially, I was just a young, awkward kid with only a few friends, so not many people were around to cheer me on as I learned how to create high-quality art, but now people from all over message me to tell me they love what I’m doing and to never quit. Nowadays, I struggle with a chronic disease called LPR that burns the vocal folds and causes vocal fatigue, which has made it a real challenge to continue making the music I love.
Share an interesting experience you had while creating your latest track.
It was so fun making the promo for this new single “In My Shoes.” Jewlz knew this dope spot to film at a couple of hours out from where we were staying called Sahalie Falls, and man, it was like a total dream. There was this massive waterfall that looked like it was straight out of a movie, and I swear it was probably the greenest forest I’ve ever seen. It was so fun hiking through and filming at that spot. Really a one-of-a-kind experience.
What message do you want to convey through your music?
Simply to uplift, inspire, and remind those in need that they are not alone. Music like that helped me survive my most difficult times, and I want to do the same for others.
Tell us about a challenge you faced during production and how you overcame it.
Oh man, this last single “In My Shoes” I dropped with Xay Hill had every hurdle imaginable. There were so many hoops we had to jump through just to get it released. I honestly never thought it would see the light of day. First of all, Xay and I linked up and made this awesome track, just to find out that the original producer had dropped off the map before I could get exclusive rights to the beat. Since that didn’t work, the song was on hiatus for a few years. Flash forward to 2024, I’m out in Oregon finishing an internship for my physical therapy assistant school, staying with my boy Jewlz, and he had the connect to get a new beat made with a similar style that fit the song perfectly! DJ Mindful.of made a whole new beat to bring this song back to life!
If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be and why?
If I could collab with any artist, it’d probably be Chester Bennington, the lead singer from Linkin Park. Rest in peace, man. Chester’s music has had a deep impact on me. It’s really gotten me through some tough times, and I can’t tell you how grateful I am for the life he shared with me and all the rest of his fans through his music.
Where do you see your music taking you in the next year?
In the next year? Honestly, I’m not too sure. I’m working on releasing this final project due to my current medical struggle with a disease called LPR that burns your vocal cords, makes it impossible to sing well, and makes your voice feel “tired.”
What’s the next big step for you as an artist?
The next and most major step for me in my music journey would be to find healing for LPR and to get back to doing what I love most: singing. I really hope it never gets to that point. Only God knows.
We occasionally feature artists on our Bird of Paradise Podcast for in-depth discussions. Would this be something you’re interested in exploring?
Yeah, that would be fun!
Are there any other promotional opportunities you’re looking for to boost your visibility?
Yeah, I’m just looking to push this new single and the following project as far as it can reach. I want to get this music out to the people that need it most.
