What’s your stage name and where are you from?
Trigz and I’m from Brisbane, Australia
What’s the story behind your stage name?
I rap under the stage name “Trigz,” which is short for “Trigger,” because it reflects the impact I aim to have with my music. Just like a trigger sets off a chain reaction, my lyrics and beats are designed to spark emotions, ignite thought, and create energy that resonates with listeners. The name carries a sense of power and precision, representing the way I approach my craft—hitting hard and leaving a lasting impression. It’s a reminder to myself and my audience that music can be a catalyst for change, connection, and inspiration.
Describe your musical journey in three sentences.
I’ve spent over 15 years making waves in the underground hip hop scene, creating raw, authentic tracks and hard-hitting beats inspired by my feelings, mental health, struggles, and sobriety. As the founder of RAW WAVS, I’ve built a global collective that fosters collaboration and champions independent artistry. I’ve shared the stage with artists like Merkules, Crazy Town, Onyx, Snak The Ripper, Drapht, Complete, and more, earning a reputation as a dedicated artist and beat maker.
Share an interesting experience you had while creating your latest track.
I wrote “Like Me” last year about dealing with haters, jealousy, and snakes in the grass, but ironically, right after its release, beef kicked off with two local artists. The timing was wild, and all the drama ended up making the track more popular, as people started tuning in out of curiosity. It’s funny how the same energy I was calling out in the song ended up fueling its success.
What message do you want to convey through your music?
My music as Trigz is all about authenticity, resilience, and staying true to myself. I call out fake friendships, critique toxic behaviors, and share my journey, including overcoming struggles with alcoholism. I want my music to inspire others to embrace their individuality and rise above negativity.
Tell us about a challenge you faced during production and how you overcame it.
As a songwriter, staying motivated and creative can be tough, especially during a block. Trying new environments, collaborating, or freewriting can help spark fresh ideas.
If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be and why?
Jelly Roll because he’s got a phenomenal country soul voice and it’s so much b experimenting and fusing different genres together.
Where do you see your music taking you in the next year?
In the next year, I plan to scale my collective, RAW WAVS, by driving international growth through collaborations with artists worldwide and breaking into new markets. My aim is to establish RAW WAVS as a globally recognised name, connect with diverse audiences, and foster cross-cultural creativity. This expansion will also help increase exposure for my music as Trigz.
What’s the next big step for you as an artist?
I’ve been a musician in the underground scene for 15 years, and after taking a two-year break, I’m just enjoying the process of making music again. I guess the next step for me will be touring Australia.
