What’s your stage name and where are you from?
Xephyrine, and I’m from NOLA, aka New Orleans, Louisiana!
What’s the story behind your stage name?
I’m used to my name being last because of my initials, so I figured I’d find a letter close to the end of the alphabet. I also wanted a one-phrase name since I think it sticks better. The X came from xxxtent. as I loved his role as a musician. The rest is all about being undervalued yet indispensable, just like the gentle yet powerful west wind, Xephyrine.
Describe your musical journey in three sentences.
The past will always happen. The present is always creative. The future will never end.
Share an interesting experience you had while creating your latest track.
I actually just made an album! Among the myriad of captivating experiences, one that stands out is the struggle I faced while recording the second verse of “Paper Dreams.” Interestingly, during this challenging moment, I received a call from my mother regarding family issues. This unexpected interruption led me to infuse the emotions into the song, drawing inspiration from memories of residing in DeGaulle Manor. It was like perfect timing haha.
What message do you want to convey through your music?
Every song has a different message, so will every album and every sound, so it’s hard to choose just one message. One day, I might be saying losing is okay; the next, screw everyone and everything. Overall, I just hope that everyone can find a song or reference they can relate to and find peace or know they aren’t alone.
Tell us about a challenge you faced during production and how you overcame it.
A challenge I faced during production is dealing with the idea of perfect. Perfect flow, perfect craft, perfect mixing and mastering, etc. I just overcame it by saying screw it. I’m just going to make what I want, and if people vibe with it with me, then we win.
If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be and why?
Ouu, that’s really tough for me because I like a lot of music. I would say the Gorillaz; I would like to see what whacky thing we can come up with. I also referenced them with a title of one of my tracks haha. I would say Ericdoa, LpChance, and Bridgit Mendler just to fool around.
Where do you see your music taking you in the next year?
Next year, I would like to think that I’d be doing shows and meeting the people that support me in real life. I can envision my cheeks hurting from smiling so hard already. I obviously want to make more music as well. (I may or may not already have it done).
What’s the next big step for you as an artist?
My next step is to promote and tour! While I fit out some juicy music videos and hopefully get some help!
We occasionally feature artists on our Bird of Paradise Podcast for in-depth discussions. Would this be something you’re interested in exploring?
Maybe!
Are there any other promotional opportunities you’re looking for to boost your visibility?
I don’t have anything in mind, but whatever it is, I want it to be weird yet classy! Something like a cute YouTube reality show/challenge!
Where can we hear/watch your most recent work?
Xephyrine on all platforms; I just dropped a new music video! I also have a website: www.xephyrine.com!
What is the best way to contact you if fans want to give feedback or if other artists/producers want to collaborate?
My website; it goes STRAIGHT to my email. DMs are okay, but sometimes people get drowned out. :\
