Lyrics:
Freight train
Crying in the middle of the night
A whistle blows
I hear it though it’s nowhere in sight

It’s always after midnight
A lonely voice is heard
Echo through the backyards
Disappearing without a word

I hear you sing for
Miles around
While the cool kids dream
And the old folk sleep in
Miles around
Are you sending me a message
If you are, I think I need it
Miles around

Freight train
I’ve been waiting for a letter from you
I know patience
Might be some kind of virtue

But I’m sitting at the crossroad
Holding my heart in my hand
Oh lonely freight train
You’re everywhere that I am

It’s always after midnight
When I hear the whistle blow
It echoes through the backyards
Is there something I should know

I hear you sing for
Miles around
While the cool kids dream
And the old folk sleep in
Miles around
Are you sending me a message
If you are, I think I need it
Miles around

When you think you’re all alone
And only phantoms on your phone
Close your eyes and listen for the sound
Of people singing for
Miles around
Miles around

Miles around
While the cool kids dream
And the old folk sleep in
Miles around
Are you sending me a message
If you are, I think I need it
Miles around
Miles around
Miles around
