What’s your stage name and where are you from?
Azube from Arizona.
What’s the story behind your stage name?
It’s a nickname from an inside joke, “Arlo Zube.” Over the years, it’s had different pronunciations, but there’s no correct way to say it. My music is up to the listener’s interpretation, just like my name.
Describe your musical journey in three sentences.
I started creating music to connect with friends, but when they didn’t work on the project, I fell in love with producing music myself. It has become the most natural way for me to express myself.
Share an interesting experience you had while creating your latest track.
I love sampling random things—like a video of people arguing over the names of their bagel shops or a TikTok of someone harmonizing with their loud fan.
What message do you want to convey through your music?
Self-expression should have no limits. My music varies widely in sound because I take inspiration from everywhere, and I think this versatility is beautiful.
Tell us about a challenge you faced during production and how you overcame it.
I have bursts of creativity in either writing or production, but rarely both at once. I push through it by focusing on one area until I get into the flow of both.
If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be and why?
JPEGMAFIA. He has influenced my life and music in so many ways, and working with him would be a dream come true.
Where do you see your music taking you in the next year?
If I focus on putting myself out there, I think I can reach a good place.
What’s the next big step for you as an artist?
Keep making music and focus on building my name.
We occasionally feature artists on our Bird of Paradise Podcast for in-depth discussions. Would this be something you’re interested in exploring?
Yes.
Are there any other promotional opportunities you’re looking for to boost your visibility?
Playlists or collaborative projects would be nice.
Where can we hear/watch your most recent work?
I’m on all streaming services except SoundCloud and Bandcamp.
What is the best way to contact you if fans want to give feedback or if other artists/producers want to collaborate?
Instagram (@prodazube).
