What’s your stage name and where are you from?
My name is JAKERA, and I’m from Vancouver, BC.

What’s the story behind your stage name?
Honestly, I was originally just going as “Jack the Producer” and thought, “That sounds basic as f*ck; I need something different.” Then one day, the name “JAKERA” popped into my mind, and I decided to roll with it. It has no meaning.

Describe your musical journey in three sentences.
I can’t sing for sh*t, but I could always play guitar and produce. Thus, I’m studying music technology at university to become a professional music engineer. That’s not my end goal though—I’m eventually going to transition into making more creative, original productions my full-time career.

Share an interesting experience you had while creating your latest track.
Honestly, I made the original beat for my latest track in, like, 2022 and just kept building on it since. I wasn’t going to release it until I started playing it for a friend and saw her reaction to the intro. She was going crazy over it, then I was like, “Yeah, maybe there’s no harm in releasing this if people really f*ck with it.”

What message do you want to convey through your music?
Creativity and innovation. All my music has very accessible elements to it, but I always want to tweak it so that it’s doing something new, or a combination of things you don’t really hear done together.

Tell us about a challenge you faced during production and how you overcame it.
Features, bruh. Some of these guys take so long to send me verses, and even if they do, I don’t always end up using them. Regardless, there ain’t sht I can do about that really. I just remember that patience is a virtue and everyone’s got their own sht going on.

If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be and why?
From a purely production standpoint, I think 2hollis and Clams Casino are both doing some stuff that would complement my work perfectly. Artists though, I really want to work with Kaycyy and 070 Shake. I think they’d fit on my production perfectly.

Where do you see your music taking you in the next year?
To the club. After this tape drops, I want to make more bangers—even some EDM music. I don’t have anything that can really get played in a social setting, and that’s something I want to change. I want DJs to play my music.

What’s the next big step for you as an artist?
If I can score some bigger placements, that’d be huge. I’ve got some stuff in the vault with bigger underground artists—I just need to release it and see where those connections take me.

Are there any other promotional opportunities you’re looking for to boost your visibility?
My promotional plan after this tape is to go on a run of co-releasing remixes of other underground artists’ songs. I feel like that’d be a dope way of networking as a producer since it benefits every party involved.

Where can we hear/watch your most recent work?
I have a link to my website with all my releases on all platforms in my Instagram bio @jakerafr, but in general, you can peep it all on Spotify.

What is the best way to contact you if fans want to give feedback or if other artists/producers want to collaborate?
Just shoot me a DM or email me—all the contact info is on my website jakera.net.
