What’s your stage name and where are you from?
Mel Crozby from Birmingham, AL.

What’s the story behind your stage name?
It was inspired by my grandmother’s stage name (Pat Crosby) from when she was in a soul band in the ’60s/’70s called Pat and The Neurotics.

Describe your musical journey in three sentences.
I often relate my musical journey to gardening. It took me a while to discover I needed to be planted in the right soil (have the right team around me). It took even longer to realize the growing pains were necessary to bloom properly.

Share an interesting experience you had while creating your latest track.
My song Polaroids was based on a poem I wrote two years ago that I initially thought was too sad to release. Now, with it being in song form, it’s helped me deal with the same emotions that inspired the poem.

What message do you want to convey through your music?
I want people to feel like they matter when they hear my music.

Tell us about a challenge you faced during production and how you overcame it.
I overcame two years of writer’s block. I realized that art is a snapshot of whatever you’re going through—there are no wrong answers.

If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be and why?
Kid Cudi. He’s the first artist that made me feel like I wasn’t alone as a depressed teenager. He’s still my favorite artist today.

Where do you see your music taking you in the next year?
I see myself becoming a full-time touring artist.

What’s the next big step for you as an artist?
Performing at a large, notable festival.

We occasionally feature artists on our Bird of Paradise Podcast for in-depth discussions. Would this be something you’re interested in exploring?
Yes, most definitely.

Are there any other promotional opportunities you’re looking for to boost your visibility?
Placements, placements, and more placements.

Where can we hear/watch your most recent work?
Spotify.

What is the best way to contact you if fans want to give feedback or if other artists/producers want to collaborate?
Instagram (@melxcrozby).
