What’s your stage name and where are you from?
My stage name is Vilaps, and I’m from Spain.
What’s the story behind your stage name?
I tried to find a cool stage name and remembered Detroit Pistons star Chauncey Billups, whom I liked back in the day. I adapted it to a Spanish typing style.
Describe your musical journey in three sentences.
Passion and hard work not very rewarded.
Share an interesting experience you had while creating your latest track.
I had a car accident on my way to record it at Open Timbz studio, and it wasn’t even my car I was driving. There was just car damage, but since it was my fault, it wasn’t a good experience. However, it taught me some big lessons.
What message do you want to convey through your music?
I aim to explain self-contradictions and human condition hypocrisy through metaphors, raising people’s consciousness.
Tell us about a challenge you faced during production and how you overcame it.
The challenge I face most often is with filmmakers and live shows. Production itself is usually easy because I make music with serious people. However, finding reliable people to film a clip or organize a live show is much harder because many don’t take it seriously. Fortunately, there are some great workers out there.
If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be and why?
Regarding rap, it would be Spanish rapper Sicario because he has remained the same real guy to me after so many years. I’d also like to feature Elio Toffana or Dano.
Where do you see your music taking you in the next year?
Not making me richer for sure, hahaha.
What’s the next big step for you as an artist?
Doing a big live show, maybe. But the real thing for me is pursuing a purer way of art.
Are there any other promotional opportunities you’re looking for to boost your visibility?
I’d like to better understand the changing ways of promoting and posting my music because I don’t get how a good artist can boost visibility without paying.
